Spain has highest share of fully vaccinated people of world’s top 50 populated countries (now vaccinating 16 year olds and above)

Seems they are considering vaccinating 12 to 18 year olds unlike the UK.
In my part of Spain (Andalucía) they are now calling under 18 year olds to register for vaccinations. Not sure which other parts of Spain have reached this yet.

One difference is that for Pfizer (the most used in Spain) we only had a 3 week gap between jabs.

This was the situation on Monday in the UK according to the BBC.

More than 46.5 million people - 88% of all UK adults - have now received a first dose of a vaccine and more than 37 million people, or 70% of all adults, have had a second.

The Spanish article talks about herd immunity at 80% full vaccinated, but there will be adults who have had Covid are not double vaccinated that could add 9% to the 70% figure. We could explain why infections are dropping in the UK. I don't buy the infections are dropping because its the school holidays and there is less testing. Note the difference in numbers. UK its 37 million Spain its 26 million - which means Spain is has approx 28% less people?

Only 14 deaths in the UK, but 13 in the Andalucia, one region of Spain. (size of Yorkshire?)

It's a funny world we live in isn't it? Spain have vaccinated more of it's population than the UK yet some people still want to do desperate mathematical gymnastics to make them feel better about the UK. Very interesting.

I believe that the numbers quoted are for percentage of the full population, not just adults.

The other side of this is the UK has a greater percentage of people who have had at least 1 vaccination.

As it happens, with the Johnson variant and others appearing now, I feel it is more important to have more older people fully vaccinated.

it is but chorizo and manchego are amazing so swings and roundabouts
I am not a great fan of traditional Spanish paella.

I cheat when it comes to making something similar. I make lots of different Spanish rice dishes that are not called paella. Even though they use a similar base to paella. Round rice, onions, peppers, paella colouring and stock. You can then add all sorts of things on top of that.

I particularly like the Greek Spanish Rice I do. With smoked salmon and feta cheese on top of the paella base. With some dill and paprika added.

Another good one uses chicken and sun dried tomatoes on top of the rice paella base. With the sun dried tomatoes soaked in dry sherry.

One other piece of advice when cooking Spanish round rice. Put the rice as the bottom layer of the pile and do not stir it. Pour the stock on the top of the pile of stuff. With any added ingredients part pre-cooked where necessary. Then cook for around 25 minutes. The round rice cooked evenly. It the who pile of stiff gets dry in less than 25 minutes just add a bit more water to keep it moist while cooking.

I Lanzarote they were vaccinating 20 year olds three or four weeks ago.
