A really good performance last night by Hackney, and in a slightly different role - he looked to be playing much deeper than we use him.
So inevitably the questions are raised about how long we can keep hold of him etc, and I have no idea, I honestly think it will be more down to him, if he gets itchy feet or not towards the end of the season and promotion isnt on the cards.
Anyway I digress, my question is, if there is interest in January, and he wants out (not saying he will!) what is the realistic valuation the club needs to be looking at?
My first thought is £25 million, and I'll show my working out;
Using Alex Scott as an example from Bristol City, moved to Bournemouth for £20 million up front and £5 million add-ons to be paid within 3 years (only what I have read in the summer).
Scott is 20 years old (Hackney now 21), both English.
Scott has racked up 9 u20 international caps, Hackney has 4 u21 international caps (across a couple of nations ;))
Scott played a total of 80 games for Bristol over 2 years since his break through season, come January Hackney (god willing injury free!) has the potential to have played around 70 games for us, I think he is currently on around 53/54, over a similar 2 year period, plus 28 games for Scunthorpe previously.
I would say the 2 are not a million miles apart in terms of development and potential, soooo do you think;
- £20/25 million is a fair valuation
- More importantly, would you accept it?
Can't fault your working out. I'd be hoping for an increased premium purely on the position and the skill set Hackney has is very much "In" at the moment.
Countless teams in the Prem struggle to find players to play that deeper role, who can still instigate attacks and comfortable in possession n tight areas. Add on the inevitable young English Tax and 20-25 mil isn't unrealistic.
