So, Why didn’t it work out for Rhodes at the Boro.

I think the March 2016 walkout by AK was about - "who is the boss" it all happened not long after Rhodes was bought for AK.

Rhodes also failed at Sheff Wed and Norwich - he was not a target man who could regularly hold the ball and bring others into the game.
Nothing to do with that, he also didn’t walk out. He was sent home for a few days and it was the clubs decision and not his.

I think people have always seen the limitations in his game. He is the classic 'just a finisher'.

When he was banging 40 goals in for Huddersfield or 3 seasons of 20+ goals for Blackburn hardly anyone tried to buy him. He was hardly ever linked with a big move despite being a goal machine. So other people better than us 'saw something'.

He simply had to play in a 2. I'm guessing football evolved and forwards had to do more. Also 4-4-2 died a death (although on its way back).

Karanka never fancied him. It seemed odd as we'd tried to sign him over 2 transfer windows. I thought his treatment in the prem was shocking (as it was with many who got us promoted) . We never looked like scoring goals yet he never got a kick.

To be fair he's been on the decline since then. We had Blackburn fans saying he was already on his way down when we signed him.

His last 3 years have been pretty woeful. It's odd for a guy who's been such a good finisher to suddenly stop scoring. I think Billy Sharp has over taken him in terms of champo goals? He's 36 and still looks every bit as good.

That said we always have Bolton away👍. I've only ever seen 'limbs' as good when Watmore scored at Blackpool.

Hes had a great career. You don't score that many goals without having talent.

As already said, Karanka didn’t want him. He was a ‘gift’ from the owner. Karanka wanted Ross McCormack but Fulham wouldn’t sell. The deal fell through at first as AK was insistent but was resurrected 24 hours later. Karanka often described signings he didn’t want as gifts. It was his way of making it public.

But we would not have been promoted without his goals on the road, especially away at Bolton
I wasn't suggesting that wasn't the case, more that the idea he didn't get more goals because of our system wasn't really true, not in the championship anyway.

How?

Without him, we wouldn't have went up
That's true. We were flagging a bit until Rhodes and more so Gaston came in.

We actually made really hard work of getting promoted. It should never have come down to the Brighton match.

Rhodes got some important goals at Bolton and Burnley in particular.
