BT Sport was fantastic when they had the Saturday 5.30 kick offs - a great slot (as Sky recognised when they pulled rank and took it). They had Ferdinand, Gerrard, - sometimes Scholes, Henry maybe - big name players from the same generation who all had a tongue in their heads and who would all have anecdotes about the England team, club rivalries, managers like Hoddle, Eriksen, Capello Ferguson etc; it was compelling viewing, groundbreaking at the time. Humphries would manage it fluidly and take being the brunt of their jokes. Lineker was doing the Chamipons League midweek games at the time, and he was good too - as always.
It has lost its way since though: too random a cast of pundits as it no longer had that regular vibe (I almost never catch the 12.30 Saturday game now - a really inconvenient time). Hargreaves is good on CL nights.
McManaman is deeply irritating; someone who likes the sound of his own voice more than Glenn Hoddle.
I have to say, I really don't get it with Micah Richards. Do you get extra points for laughing or something? He's improved, but from a very low starting position.
