Smith to Norwich

Remarkable how much we've all changed our tune on Smith.

Not long ago I don't think anyone would've battered an eye lid at the thought of him going.

Now he's our #1 and first choice RB. And not only that, you can tell he's a proper leader on the pitch and a role model for the youngsters.

His attitude is first class and I would be sad to see him go.

His experience is valuable too.
It was because he wasn't suited to playing as a wing-back in Wilder's system. I said myself at the time that he was clearly a RB, being asked to play in an unfamiliar role.

He's done really well since Carrick arrived and it would be a shame to lose him, but if he actively states that he wants to go then I don't think we should stand in his way. After what happened with Ramirez I believe the club should always sell when a player wants out.

To be fair I don’t think it’s been said he wants to go, just that Norwich are interested cos he’s doing well and they have a manager he knows. I can see him using the interest as a motive to try and get a better or extended deal here and why wouldn’t he. Personally can’t see him going anywhere.

I think that's probably it, in a nutshell. Who wouldn't want to be here right now?

Fingers crossed 🤞

I think he has done enough to earn another contract but as with Howson last year it probably wont be sorted til after window shuts or the summer, if he accepts our terms. There is no way on gods earth we are going to allow him to go to a promotion rival this window. As a right back his deputy appears to be Gitau from the 21s so we aren’t going to leave ourselves that short.

From the standpoint that we held off signing him to a long term deal it makes you wonder if we have someone else lined up? Ok, he's 30, and while I'm willing to bet he'd be gone should we get promoted there's no kidding anyone that he's been the difference to our defence in the Championship. Moreover, I'm sure he's good for another 2 years and maybe he could play CB if push came to shove. Personally I think we've been perhaps a little slow out of the blocks in signing him, but then again perhaps he wants more than we're willing to offer him at this stage in his career.

Me too
Massive loss if he goes for his passion, leadership and consistency.
Give him better terms and an extension to his contract.

Why wouldn’t we. ?

Talking to a Sunderland fan last week, picking kids up from school and he told me that Spence was coming back to Boro on loan.
Mackem telling you boro transfer plans ?
Was this as he asked you to tie his shoe laces 😊
Good rumour though , AND , I would not be against it , especially if Smith goes .

Would need replacing if he goes, ideally with a similar type of player.

If Fisher is back I actually think he'd do well in this team. Disciplined, "traditional" type of RB. Otherwise Cyrus Christie? Maxime Colin?

The lad Jack Stacey from Bournemouth we have been linked with once or twice might be decent. Don’t like Christie. Colin is decent

Not sure any manager would be looking at Smith as a direct replacement for Max Aarons. Hardly a similar style of RB are they
