Sleep paralysis

Has anyone suffered with this? I’m being tortured with it. That and nightmares.
Anyone had similar issues?

Yeah I used to get it a lot in my late teens and early twenties. Quite a scary thing. I grew out of it though.

Thanks for reply, I’m 46. I think it’s a reaction to medication. Love the Jet Set Willy picture or is it Manic Miner?

This thing, whatever it is, it’s trying to kill me, smother me with pillows. I can’t breathe. 😃

Yeah I was exactly the same. Couple of things I found helped ...

Don't sleep on your back. Loads of ways you can do that - put a tennis ball in a bum bag behind you or prop yourself on your side.
Don't get too tired. I was burning the candle at both ends when I had it. The only time it came back when I was older was when we had our second child who NEVER slept. Only started sleeping through when was 10ish. This might explain why the meds are affecting you.

Manic Miner BTW (but it's the same character)

I often ‘wake up’ before I’m able to move, don’t get the visions though. It’s a scary enough experience without them!

I used to get the duvet rustling then slowly moving over the face to suffocate me, but haven't had it in recent years. The best solution was to relax and tell yourself it wasn't real. Not easy in the moment I know, but it did work for me.

It is a well-known and really unpleasant thing to experience. I've only had it once and even though I knew what was going on (I had fallen asleep reading The Terror that Comes in the Night as part of my Masters in Folklore) I still couldn't get free of it. Sleeping on your side is the best advice to try and prevent it from happening.

Yeah I get that, mine is where I feel like I'm awake but can't move or breathe. I used to panic and try call for help, but now I have learned to try to stay relaxed(easier said than done). I also get exploding head syndrome which I find more amusing than scary. I find sleeping with some music on helps with both.

I have this every now and then, I can sort of speak I shout out to my wife, but she doesn't wake me up. I thought I had someone kneeling on my back with a gasmask on and wouldn't let me up. It's terrifying

My son suffered night terrors and it was heartbreaking to witness..

doctors put it down to diet and in particular orange juice before going to bed…

I also thought it may have had something to do with his bladder control through the night… he has grown out of it but has told us he has woke up sweating and still has vivid dreams…

I have awful dreams sometimes. See my parents and my kids dying, see my wife with exs and wife getting beat up by her ex, see all sorts of warped twisted ****. Wake up soaked in sweat quite often.

I used to get them all the time when I was younger. Very scary not being able to move and fighting it. So glad I don't get them anymore

i used to get it a couple of nights after a heavy drinking session I used to feel awake and conscious even though i wasn't and unable to move at all. I dont get them at all now i dont drink to excess.

I’ve had it since about the age of 18, doesn't occur very often thesedays, however i’ve noticed it occurs mostly if im falling asleep with the tv on. Something will wake me up when my body has decided to go into sleep mode. It can be scary, but i always try to focus on one part of body and try to move it and then eventually i can move as normal

A friend of mine suffered from this into his 30s from his teens. He had a couple of regression therapy sessions and that worked wonders. Might be worth considering.
