Sign a CB on Loan

The club need to this.

Fry and Lenihan can’t be trusted now. Even when they do return one or both of them will probably break down again. How many injuries does fry get per season?

Even if it means one of them being 5th choice and virtually not getting a kick all season then so be it. We need someone here and now to compete with Clarke and VDB especially now VDB is out. So yeah, let’s sign an experienced CB on loan if poss before the deadline.

Agree it looks like a problem position this season, although the international break might ease the pressure if we can get one of them back. Frustrating because on paper we’ve got 4 good players there.
In the meantime, Howson has played well at CB before (although I can’t remember if it was in a back 4 or 5), I think I’d rather he was in there than Ayling .

He’s injured too though. He will probably out similar time to VDB.

International break is coming at a good time for us that’s for sure. As much as I hate them.

I agree we need another experienced body in there so we aren't playing square pegs in round holes (Howson, Ayling) but I'm not sure if Carrick or the club would agree.

Makes perfect sense. I just can’t calculate Fry and Lenihan into my thinking anymore.

They both played against Bolton in pre season and just continue to pick up injury after injury. Carrick doesn’t help by saying they are only knocks and niggles. They are not. 6 weeks missing isn’t a knock which is the case for Fry and 4 weeks now for Lenihan.

I was rather concerned when Clarke took a bang to the head last night.

When are Howson, Fry, VDB and Lenighan back?

Michael Hector is available for free, 32 years old and just finished playing with Jamaica in Copa America. We could do a lot worse than offering him a one year deal.

There's a handful of players that simply seem to have disappeared, despite being in the first team squad - the two above, Forss, McGree, Smith, even Howson. Ayling imo has been poor this season, certainly not the powerhouse he was last year. Not helped by a defence seemingly made of balsa. I said to my mate last night, if you'd have said a year ago that of the players we have, the one who must not get injured is Matt Clarke, you'd have laughed your head off.

I think it depends on the situation with Fry and Lenihan. If either are likely to be fit after the international break then we can make do until then. No point bringing a loan player in to play a couple of games.

But the player we bring in might be someone who is fit and ready to go. Fry and Lenihan haven’t even had a proper pre season. They won’t be ready to play. And when they do I reckon they will breakdown. It’s what they do.

I’ve gone from thinking that we have 4 very good centre backs options too, 2 very good centre back options and 2 perma crocks.

Out of this list Dan Potts would have been a decent shout but just seen he missed all of Luton's PL season through injury. Played a fair few games in their promotion season, as captain as well, before missing most of the end of the season through another injury.

The rest, meh. We either need an experienced head to come in who is happy to step in when needs be, or a young loan from the PL that can play either CB or FB.

Like I said if they are fit and ready then great. If not, then maybe we look at other options.

We aren't privy to their exact condition, so it's guesswork really on our part.

Fry is certainly unreliable, history dictates you only get around 30 games a season from him.

Lenihan is a bit different, he has a good injury record but has had a serious one. When he is fully fit again no reason he can't maintain it.

Fry defo unreliable. I’d be prepared to sign a CB on loan with the intention of Making Fry 5th choice and selling him either in January or next summer. I thought that about Lenihan too but he’s been back and got injured again.

I have more hope in Lenihan than Fry I do agree with you there. Fingers crossed there’s someone available we can sign before the deadline.

I reckon if the injury situation continues with Fry and Lenihan (and experience tells us it may well do so) we will have to get cover of some sorts. Even a temporary loan if we can achieve it. It doesn’t make sense not to.
