Remember us trying to sign this lad on a free ?
Currently top scorer for Union Berlin who are top of the Bundesliga.

Our recruitment team take quite a pounding at times but in the interest of providing a bit of balance I thought this should be mentioned.

Shame we never got the deal over the line .

We’ve been close on quite a few.. remember Lindelof being close under Karanka.

I believe they thought Lindelof was agreed and then he just never turned up.
We also looked very close to signing Maguire from Hull who wasn't even first choice at that point, but then they had a couple of injuries and pulled the plug.
 
I saw him play live when I was living in the NL for Den Haag v's Utrecht... he was utterly bonk!! Looked league one at best.. I remember being so happy we didn't get the deal over the line.

Funny how things work out.. makes you realise that certain player / club combos just don't work and other times things gel and players find a purple patch!

Seems like a lottery - just staggering how many times Boro haven't managed to find these purple patches with a vast array of players from around the world!

very frustrating.. surely a few more failures and we'll get a decent striker who works out at the burra 🤷‍♀️
