Sheff Utd trying to avoid points deduction

They have no need to go into administration as long as they can reasonably hope for promotion and PL money to pay off their debts.

Besides which, the Thursday deadline only applies to relegated teams that are trying to play the system and delay admin until they know the points deduction won't matter. For teams where the deduction does matter, the deduction is automatic and immediate, however late in the season.

So the transfer embargo due to late filing of the accounts wasn't simply an administrate issue it now seems.

All sounds like a bit of a mess, which no doubt will be solved be promotion, which I have to day leaves a bitter taste in my mouth if the inevitable happens.

This is what is wrong, Just like Wolves, Villa, West ham many year ago the sanctions come after the season that offences are committed, we all know if it was Middlesbrough we would be deducted points immediatley pending investigation.

It isnt fair for the smaller clubs coming from league 1 who cut there cloth accordingly and the many other teams that continue to do so across the football league.

Something has to give as too many clubs are not applying or sticking by the regulated rules!

Simple: miss filing annual accounts on time for whatever reason, 10 point deduction. No ifs, no buts. If your accounts prove to be ‘not on order’ following scrutiny, automatically relegated.

I still think we'll overhaul them.
It would be quite funny if we left it to the last day of the season and Gibson could then turn round to the EFL and say "here's another fine mess you've got yourselves into".
The chaos would be watchable as the EFL came under pressure to act before the playoffs started and made the situation a whole lot more complicated.
I'm looking forward to the day that footballs authorities actually take decisive action at the time and stop trying to kick the can down the road. I do feel that if we didn't have the playoffs then it'd be much easier as the team promoted instead of the offender would be next in line and not one of four.

to be honest hope they don't get deducted any points would rather win more points than them on the pitch and go up because of that, than go up because they have been deducted points it would not feel right

The only reason they'd go in to administration is because they've spent money they didn't have and kept players they haven't been paying for.

They rejected big offers for players in January.

If they do go in to administration, which I don't think they will, they'll deserve the deduction and their place in the table was illegitimate anyway because of those player issues.

yeah fair enough

I totally understand why they would go into administration :) but it is just a personal preference that I would prefer to get promoted because we won more points which we will obviously ;)

Promotion shouldn’t be the way to resolve, otherwise there is no punishment and they are just taking up a place in the premiership with certainty of coming back down, doesn’t seem right.

"He has already given the club the best part of £10 million to settle certain bills and keep them afloat as they pursue promotion to the Premier League."
Is this allowed under financial fair play rules?

It makes you wonder. I’d be interested to know.

Concentrate on the football. Win our games. Then whatever happens, happens.

No. And others in the game are saying he will not be taking over at Sheff U as he is yet another candidate without credit or credibility.
