Seems like Chelsea have rattled Liverpool

He is a scouser and Liverpool fan who won leagues and cups for his boyhood team, including a goal at Wembley against Everton. He was also on the local radio doing the commentary for a long time, including "legends" phone-ins like Bernie used to do and has always been heavily involved in the aftermath of Hillsborough.

Klopp runs that club from top to bottom in relation to transfers, they have one of the highest wage bills in the league. Salah is on over 400k a week yet they play the net spend card. Lets be fair klopp said at the press conference they are signing caciedo only for him to join chelsea. Massive hypocrite is klopp.

Only now he does because they lost a sporting director. He wants to go back to that set up. Throughout his whole time there he had a guy doing the recruitment and that's where so much success came from.

I always find it surprising that Aldo is referred to as a Liverpool 'legend', seems to happen a lot. He only did two years didn't he?
A particular annoyance of mine. As a kid it felt like I was waiting forever for free scoring Ian Rush to hang up his boots. Then Aldridge this similarly successful moustachioed striker rocks up. Bloody doppelgänger

Yeah I understand that. Just think 2 seasons is a bit short for a 'legend'. Can't think of any Boro players we might class as legends who only did two years?

Zenden? Legend is pushing it for me. Anyway, its not important, just a musing.

How do Chelsea get away with spaffing, what, £500m+ and comply with FFP? Is it a sh*t or bust tactic, take any punishment further down the line?

SSN are reporting Man U having trouble signing big names due to FFP issues.......and if they can't how can Chelsea?

Mad.
Well the ones they were signing last year were on 8 year deals and amortised over that. so a 64m player would amortise at 8m on FFP every year. This was similar to the Derby trick wasn't it, they armortised players longer than their contracts, so that they could spend more now. It's gambling future revenue.

That has been stamped out by UEFA so can only amortise over a max of 5 years now.

This Caceido 100m contract, will be 20m on the FFP this season. all their signings this season will be 60m on FFP this year, and every year for the next 5 years. But, wait, they also have to add 1/8th of last seasons transfers, which is about another 75m. So FFP they will be down about 135m this year on transfers alone.

Balancing that off though, they've sold 215m in players this season. So I guess they are fine this year. But to stay fine they will likely need a big sale every year, and two if they want to buy anymore players.

Two of those players sold came through the youth system , so they'll be hoping that proves fruitful in the future.

They'll also be hoping that some of the younger prospects they've recently bought prove to be good investments.

I must admit, I have my doubts.

Not sure how you define Legend. Longevity, significant achievements, quality, memories? If Juninho hadn't have returned we'd still consider him a legend?

Dunno if I would. Like a rat off a sinking ship wasn't he.... Didn't even come on the bus tour!

No, in all seriousness its an interesting one to consider how we'd have perceived TLF if he'd not come back twice, and won a cup. I have nothing but resentment for Rav and Emo now.

I’m struggling to see how Chelsea can play both lavia and caicedo in a balanced side? Surely one player cannot develop is he’s getting low game time. With that in mind I think they’re wasting money. Eight or nine year contracts are ludicrous, how many players plateau and never reach their expected peak.
I really like Liverpool’s approach and hope they get a player of equal quality for much less money.

Liverpool's previous success was from having a guy called Michael Edwards handle the recruitment. He got deals done quickly and smartly, rarely overpaying. When they wanted Virgil van Dijk and couldn't get him they waited. When they got him he was sensational. They stuck to their system and didn't panic when not getting key targets. If the right players weren't available they either waited or bought smart by buying someone who is good but cheap.

People mention how they pay massive for some players but they have a very high strike rate and their net spend under Klopp's reign is remarkable for what he has achieved in that time.

They don't expect/demand to win trophies every single season and so don't pay like they are desperate. Fair play to them.

Cheers.

So it's a medium term sh*t or bust, as after 5 years if these players turn out to be poo they will be stuck with them on mega wages for another 2-3-4 years. Or sell them and lose a fortune.

Do wages not affect FFP? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was reading somewhere that Abramovic left Chelsea totally debt free so its effectively and brand new company now. That’s why FFP restrictions aren’t yet fully breached. They’re just about at the limit now and that’s why Kepa went to fit Lavia in.
If it’s true they’re basically stuck with this squad for years. Im far from any sort of financial expert so this could be miles away from accurate. But it does seem to fit.

I’d say two years without making the champs league would be bust. They’d have to have a fire sale with a poor return just to break even, while ruining their squad. Sh*t or bust is a great way to look at it
