Seems like Chelsea have rattled Liverpool

... Liverpool have had a bid accepted for Stuttgart midfielder Endo.

Dont get me wrong, Endo is a great CDM, and I actually think for the £16 mill being quoted it will be quite an astute signing if it happens.

But .....This one does appear to be a bit of a panic bid, probably after Chelsea have swept up their main targets.

Its a very different profile of player though, Endo has now hit 30, where as before that Liverpool were looking at up and coming huge potential in that position, but they havent showed any interest in Liverpool!

What I cant understand is Klopp publically baulked at Bellinghams £100 million price tag, but 6 weeks later wanted Caicedo for a similar fee. Personally I would take Bellingham every day. (albeit slightly different position so that could be it)

I think Endo wasn't a panic buy, just a back up, it seemed to come out of nowhere. Liverpool do seem to huff at the money Chelsea are throwing around, which is ironic as they've ***ed away money for years.

I think they're just signing Endo for his versatility, he can play centre back as well as CDM.

They're trying to sign Sofyan Amrabat ahead of Man Utd.

I very much doubt Klopp has any say over what is and what isn't affordable. He wanted Bellingham but the club decided that a £100m transfer fee and massive wages was beyond them.

What has clearly changed is the Saudi's have given Liverpool over £50m for two past their best midfielders and removed a huge amount of the wage bill in the process. Aside from the fact this makes it possible for them to afford Caicedo, their expectations have probably changed with regard to future player valuations. For example, if they were looking to offload Salah at the end of this season, they'd have probably expected something in the order of £50m for a 32 year old on colossal wages. They would now probably expect at least double that if Salah wants to jump aboard that particular gravy train.

Notwithstanding everything I've said above, I think if there was a genuine chance that Bellingham wanted to go there, they should have gone all out to get him.

Not really that hard to work out:

1. Bellingham was main target but told them he wants to join Madrid instead so Liverpool say they "pulled out" rather than rejected.
2. Saudi buying goes mental and (along with Declan Rice going for over £100m) the price of PL ready DM's goes through the roof.
3. Liverpool accept they need to now pay more (having previously said they wouldn't) because of Saudi's pushing prices sky-high and accept it and try to buy Caicedo. But he chooses Chelsea in a bidding war.
4. Liverpool recognise they still need someone and (having missed out on their very top targets) go for an "astute" purchase of a good player and a relatively low price for someone who is still only 30 and can possibly contribute well for 3 years.

I think Liverpool have played it right - tried to get their top targets, accepted rejection well and kept themselves composed to still not be reckless and throw money around at just anyone. If Endo proves to be a good player then they still have all their transfer kitty for the next window too.

How do Chelsea get away with spaffing, what, £500m+ and comply with FFP? Is it a sh*t or bust tactic, take any punishment further down the line?

SSN are reporting Man U having trouble signing big names due to FFP issues.......and if they can't how can Chelsea?

Mad.

Jobs a good 'un

I'll delete the thread (y)

Dont know about Liverpool but Chelsea spending over £160 million on Caicedo and Lavia sounds like utter madness to me.
Add to that >£100m in Fernandez in January.

>£250m on 3 x defensive midfielders!! Think it’s more like £278m in total!!

WTF!

How much would MFC go for?

Think Liverpool's net spend is half of Man City's, Man Uniteds, Arsenals and Chelsea's mind. Less than Spurs too..at least it was before they sold Kane!

Because Manchester United are poor sellers. Chelsea have sold loads of players for big profit, plus the likes of Havertz - who’s fee wasn’t fully paid but the outstanding part of which is wiped off the books by selling to Arsenal, which also allowed them to declare a £60m+ profit on just him.

Caicedo goes down as £20m in the books because that insane fee is spread over five years. If they sell him next summer they can declare the full amount as profit. Same with all the players they’ve signed. Chelsea are selling players and using the funds to pay the first instalments on these new signings. They’re also drastically lowering their wage bill. Man. United have not been doing that.

It is of course absolute b*llocks.

There are quite a few of the traditional ‘big’ clubs suffering because of practices like this IMO. Juventus, Barcelona, Manchester United. You have owners playing fast and loose with the financial futures of each club to try and keep up with the Gulf states. Manchester City are obviously prolific cheats as well, as are PSG. Lots of clubs have been fined by UEFA for breaking the rules.

There are surely simpler ways to govern the financial aspect of football but too many people have too much of a vested interest in making it as complicated and deliberately opaque as possible. It’s a sham, let’s be honest.

I always find it surprising that Aldo is referred to as a Liverpool 'legend', seems to happen a lot. He only did two years didn't he?

Bellingham had no interest whatsoever in signing for Liverpool. They announced he was too expensive to save face but it's the same situation as me ruling out my interest in Margot Robbie.

I don't think Liverpool have played it well and it's been massively embarrassing for them to be making bids of £100m+ on players and then being rejected in favour of a team that finished 12th and aren't even playing in Europe. They might end up with the better value player in the end but that's by accident rather than design. It's poor recruitment (and a recognisable situation for us with Howson) to not have a replacement for their departing players already in the squad before their entire midfield left (Henderson, Fabinho, Keita and Milner all gone in the same window). They shouldn't have been in the position of having to panic buy.

Man Utd and Chelsea's business is very different because Utd have the Glazers who don't want to put their hands in their pocket and Chelsea have Boly who does.

Chelsea's spending is mental but they have recouped a lot through sales. They've sold Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Koulibay, Pulisic, Mendy, Loftus-Cheek and Ampadu. Let other big earners go on a free: Kante, Azpilicueta, Aubamayang, Bakayoko, Kepa is out on loan etc. They are still trying to sell some others and bring more money in (Ziyech, Lukaku, Hall, Hudson-Odoi).

Klopp runs that club from top to bottom in relation to transfers, they have one of the highest wage bills in the league. Salah is on over 400k a week yet they play the net spend card. Lets be fair klopp said at the press conference they are signing caciedo only for him to join chelsea. Massive hypocrite is klopp.

Maybe they get him mixed up with Rush?! Remember when they signed him from Oxford, joke was they had only gone for him because he looked like Rush, who was off to Juventus at the time.

Yeah. He did score plenty of goals in those two years so not like he was a flop or anything, but 'legend' always feels a bit far. Would United fans call Van Persie a legend? I doubt it.
