Scandinavian House

This may be of interest. The Facebook page, "North East Monuments ", has posted a few times about Scandinavian House and the adjoining church. Lovely pictures, a little history etc.

I remember going to the church as a kid, in late 70s-early 80s when it had sales on, probably around Christmas time. I recalled the stained glass windows then. It's probably my favourite buildings in the town because of the mural on the old centre and the stained glass windows in the church.

Any memories or even any Scandinavians who used the centre, or was it just sailors?

I had to find out online. Apparently it is Sjomanskyrkan(yes, that is a copy and paste!), so I'll say you about 95 percent right. Good memory recall

Ha! So close! Amazing isn't it how you can remember things like that and if you asked me what I did last week, I couldn't tell you!!!!

Would love to see more stuff like this. Great to read about the history of local buildings etc especially ones that one may not simply notice etc
I think your suggestion above about Rob doing something on it may be interesting. When he has time of course!

Back in late 2007 I was working in a suburb of Stockholm called Sickla. I was staying in a local hotel, a number of locals used the bar.
An old bloke I was talking to one evening asked where I was from, when I told him I was from Teesside he asked about the Bongo etc., he'd done the Tees run many times. He then mentioned the setting up of the mission and how they contributed part of their wages to have it built.
