Sanogo inbound

Spicy signing this.

I've watched him play two full matches at Arsenal - had one unbelievable game, Kanu with a bit of Drogba, he really stood out.

Second game laughable, way off the pace. Seen him come on as a sub a few times since and sadly more of the latter than the former and became a bit of a joke with Arsenal fans, but the first time I saw him I thought 'Wow'. Even texted my mate to say who's this new superstar, I just found the message!

Gamble, wildly inconsistent, a few injuries and about five years older than I thought he was - but looking through his wiki, you don't play for every French age group and captain the under-17s if you're a mug.

I imagine he's very much one of these where we won't know what you'll get from one week to another. That's why he's free and without a club.

My mate is an arsenal fan and had great pleasure sending me a link that he's signing. He wasn't all negative. He did say in games he could be unplayable then 5 mins later fall over when clean through or miss from a yard.

He did say that he's useful but don't expect many goals (although this was based on him in the prem and years ago). He said he watched him score 4 in a pre season game and everyone left the ground thinking they had the new Drogba😂

I've always been a fan of a big unit up top. You just know when they run out to warm up or at kick off opposition fans are saying 'look at the size of that fecker' 👍

Is he really that big? It's been ages since I've seen him play so I can't really remember.

In my mind he plays like a slightly fatter Joseph Job, similar ungainly and awkward leggy style, but can be effective, I don't remember him being wide and strong. However, like I say it's a long time since I last saw him play, so I'm probably totally wrong. I think on a free he's worth a punt.

6ft 3 (ish)👍

He's already on a winner as he didn't cost anything and the general thought is he can't be as bad as the lad he's replacing.

Pound for pound Rudy was arguably one of Boro's worst signings in my memory. In terms of fee / wages and returns on the pitch. Then to leave for nothing🙁

Sanogo will be a cult hero. He will do well here, got a feeling.

Love the positivity, worry it has no foundation, where would this leave Britt or Fletcher were he to start? As you know I trust NW implicitly and he knows more about how to build a successful championship team than almost anybody I could name. However, Sanogo’s stats trouble me, but I know nowt about him tbf.

My thoughts, if you play a big man up top you need pacy runners playing off them Imho. We really don’t have that (as yet) Tav is perhaps the nearest but lacks genuine pace. Coulson and Spence have pace, but I can’t see either as playing that role. I hope we have a couple of loanees earmarked to play the roles required around a hold up CF. Ideally Roberts and A. N. Other (Murphy?) Hopefully the plan is coming together slowly but surely though.

I hope he been brought in as 3rd choice but with the idea of obviously rotation for the odd game aswell. Only time I have seen him was for Arsenal back then he was unorthodox and ungainly but had great athleticism and looks like the type of player especially at this level a fellow striker would enjoy playing with. I can see him doing well here just an opinion. I could be wrong but I certainly think it’s a risk worth taking and he is nothing like Gestede like others are saying.

Sounds like exactly the sort of player we need to compete for places with Britt and Fletch, a bit different but also complimentary, so he could play with either in a front two. If he was anything like a young Drogba he wouldn't be anywhere near us. Perhaps some game time and playing in a "simple" formation will get his performing?

Deffo wortha shot

Rudy MK2? Least he didn't cost 6mil and a 4yr 30k a week contract. I am working on the theory that he can't be any worse and must be better.

He will add something different. He's a unit and a bit awkward in stature.

I think its a decent punt for a free👍
Warnock would have kept Gestede if he was cheap and didn't have such a bad injury record.

We have 7 games in 22 days after the next international break, so yeah, need a bit of rotation I dare say.

I think you're right about the rotation. it's a squad game these days. Gone are the days of fans jotting down 11 names in a formation and declaring it "simples". Whatever our best 11 is, chances are it won't start more than 6-7 matches together, and it won't be because the manager doesn't recognize it.

Sanogo is very unlikely to feature soon, i my opinion.
He was released from Auxerre a ehile back, probably hasn’t trained anywhere near enough either.
I reckon it will be a while before we see him in action.
