Sanogo inbound

Because he's big, French, has had a lot of long term injuries and scores very few goals.

Hardly fair. Rudy had a great championship goalscoring record before he signed for us.

1 goal every 156 minutes.
Even without his great season for Blackburn, it was 1 goal every 177 minutes.

But surely we're all past judging strikers on past goalscoring records? We've tried spending big money on good records time and time again in the past, and it has failed ever since Alves. Rudy is evidence of that.

Signing goal scorers isn't about maths, its about chemistry.

Sanogo has a terrible goalscoring record before he's signed for us.

In a vacuum, imagining he'd never played for us, I'd be far more excited about signing Gestede than Sanogo.

We'll never be past judging players on their records before they signed for us. It's the only way we can judge prospective signings.

As I've already said, there'll be nobody happier than me if he proves to be a master stroke signing.

Remember, Bamford hasn't scored for about 2 years before rejoining us. Plenty on here complaining about that when we resigned him, but the chemistry was right with our team

A good record in the past doesn't mean it will be replicated here
A bad record in the past doesn't mean it will be replicated here.

I'll trust NWs judgement more than goals/game stats.

Never seen Rudy do this

He did almost that exact bit of skill against Peterborough, as I recall.

The offside goal itself is straightforward.

Gestede has scored at least two overhead kicks for us too, so one moment of skill isn't necessarily indicative that he'll be good for us.

One last thought: why judge them at all?
It's not like our opinion makes a difference whether we sign them or not.

I've been excited by enough signings that have flopped over the years to not have an opinion, or feel the need to have one, until I've seen a guy play for a month or two.

What's the point in following football if you're not going to judge things before they happen?
My opinion on anything that happens with Middlesbrough isn't going to change it.

But I'll still be fairly happy with Betinelli, very happy with Sam Morsy, extremely happy with Cauley Woodrow and very underwhelmed by Sanogo.

Assuming all 4 happen, which is far from a guarantee.

He will make our attack better with his hold up play. The link between our strikers and midfield is non existent. Half the time they aren’t even in the same half of the field when we are attacking. Warnock likes a 4-3-3 too, can see Sanogo being the fulcrum. Not expecting Sanogo to score 20 goals but I think he makes it more likely Fletcher does.

I got the impression wed be starting with 3 at the back but maybe when the windows complete warnock will get to play the formation he wants.
Maybe we should of left monk crack on with his 433 😉

From the footage I’ve seen, although awkward the lad looks like he can play a bit. I think he’d cause defences problems. A lot of teams set up differently and he offers something different to what we have already.
