Well I've never known that before. You haven't signed a player but you get him to pose with a manager that's not his, holding a shirt with his name on at a club he hasn't signed for!!!
Seeing as he's not our player then, I wonder what Fulham will make of that!

Haha. Should have realised when the player himself was NOT holding up the shirt that it was Warnock showing him how the garment could fit him.

I'm sure on the Boro podcast John Hendrie told the story of him signing for Leeds. He turned up and they'd already booked the press etc, so they rushed through the contract and shook hands and agreed terms verbally then agreed they'd formally sign the contract after the press had been spoken to.
After the interviews he returns to find the Leeds Chief Executive has reneged on the agreed terms they had shook on just before the press conference and has presented a different contract. So he told them to stuff it and stormed off. He said he was driving back up to Newcastle listening to a radio interview with himself about how pleased he was to sign for Leeds!
A few days later they called him at home and backed down and gave him the terms they'd shook on. So, it's perhaps not just Boro who jump the gun!

But have Boro “jumped the gun?” That photo was leaked by some rogue. There was no announcement at all apart from that Keith Downey tweet.

But Rob intimated that the deal may not go ahead at all. If that's the case then why is there a photo of Bettinelli with another manager holding up a shirt for a club he hasn't signed for?!
Surely you wait then, till you get a signature if there is some doubt about the deal.

I agree Boro have not done anything wrong and certainly haven't 'jumped the gun', as officially they've not released any real formal comment about this deal being done. You're right it's someone who's got hold of that pic and released it who's been a bit too quick off the mark.
Jumped the gun is just my clumsy turn of phrase in the story above!

It wasn't Boro that took the photo or more to the point it wasn't Boro that published the photo.

From watching the press conference on the website Warnock talks like he has actually signed and we are just waiting on clearance he can play tomorrow.

Clearly not how we go about signing players.
1. Tell Newyddion
2. Get shirt printed up and take a photo of player with the shirt and the manager.
3. Ask the player if they want to join Middlesbrough Football Club
4. Ask their club if we can can sign the player for much less than they are worth.
5. Offer them two free spa treatments at rockliffe and £200 per week cash in hand

But why allow a photo to be taken then when he's NOT our player and may not be our player? That's my point! Whether he's a Boro photographer, a Fulham photographer, or a photographer from Botswana who's here on holiday, why allow anyone to take a photo?
