Sam Greenwood

I honestly don’t know why we’ve done it. He’s been poor value. He’s not as good as players like Lewis Wing or Marvin Johnson or Duncan Watmore.
True, in hindsight. I think we only loaned him because we couldn't get a purchase arranged in time and that the intent was to buy him alongside Rogers on the basis that at least 1 of the 2 would come good. Although he's a year older than Rogers, people tend to forget that Rogers had much more experience in the Championship before we signed him and Greenwood had started just 9 games in his career (4 Premier, 4 FA cup, 1 EFL cup). It was reasonable to think given his youth team pedigree that, like Rogers, he would come good with a season in the Championship.

It looks to me that when it came to our attacking midfielders/forwards we had
Rogers & Greenwood to go into the first team squad
Silvera and Gilbert to go into the development squad

To be fair, Maddo finally admitted Connolly was ***** tonight.
Yes because he's no longer in a Boro shirt. They wouldn't dare give such an opinion on a current player.

Also noticeable how overly positive they are on players who are being criticised on socials.

They make Barlaser sound like a world beater every time he plays.
Same with Engel.

If Boro pay 1.5 million for him, i’m done. He scored a free kick against leicester and thats the only thing i remember him doing. Can remember the amount of people on here saying to sign him up immediately…after one free kick. If he signs, then the recruitment team need their heads examining

Lets see how highly Carrick rates him in the summer. I will be stunned if he is back here. Not sure why your going overboard to defend him, He isn't offering us much.
I just see someone who gives 100% and has had some very good moments (and some not so good )yet gets a lot of stick, some of it personal. Bit over the top imo.

We may well not sign him (for financial reasons more than anything) but I can see a situation where we spend this season developing him (as a young player in his first full season), and he continues to improve somewhere else next year. I certainly see no reason why he has reached his ceiling.

Yeah the personal stuff is over the top. All I’ve ever said is he’s not good enough. Which for me he isnt.

No need to say anything personal about him however I have repeated on numerous threads.

"anyone but greenwood"

Tbf to the lad, he works hard out of possession.

Sadly, if that is the best thing you can say about an attacking player, I think that speaks volumes.
An upgrade is certainly needed next season.

Bl00dy Heck - he's getting pelters on here!
I dont mind Greenwood in all honesty. I think his work ethic is as good as anyones at the club. I know you cant hang your hat on that alone but given his age and inexperience, I'd be willing to trust Carrick if he thinks there is something there to work with.
Young lad, lots to learn, willing to learn (hopefully), hard working......
I said to me brother during the last game, he's probably our only player that has a nasty streak to him. I dont mind that at all. We have no one on the pitch that can dish it out and I think you need someone like that in a successful team.

If he doesnt sign I wont be upset - but I dont think anyone here has given him a proper chance yet.

He's been one of our main attacking players for the entire season, and he's not scored or assisted in 3 months.

Since Christmas, even Gilbert has the same number of goal involvements.

Why will he continue to improve next season when he hasnt progressed in this one

Not sure that is very fair glover.

Why would Akpom suddenly improve. It's not out of the question he will 'suddenly' improve with a little maturity and more coaching alongside his team mates.

The coaching staff have to decide whether that is likely to happen and makes him worth the risk.

He has gone from barely any first team starts to a full season for a promotion challenging team including 8 goals and assists. I'd call that progression. He's only 22. Why would that necessarily be his ceiling?

Doesn't make it much better but he should have an assist from the Sheff Wed game (the own goal)

What a refreshing thread. Refreshing because I thought I was losing my faculties - alone in thinking he was not up to it. It appears from this thread that I am not alone.

We won’t. I’d be absolutely staggered if we do.
