"A designated licensed standing section with space for approximately 1,800 home supporters will be installed in the South East Corner of the stadium and will include the lower section of block B and the upper sections of blocks C, D, E and F. A similar provision will also be installed for visiting supporters on Level 7 of the Leazes End.

"The trial follows a supporter consultation process, during which more than 4,000 fans responded to an online survey - with 70 fans attending a subsequent working group session at St. James' Park to provide more detailed feedback. Of those surveyed online, 75 per cent were in favour of licensed standing being introduced at St. James' Park - with the South East Corner and Gallowgate End identified as the preferred location by more than 70 per cent of respondents.

If you recall we had similarly 90% of 4000 Boro fans in favour of having a choice of standing and seating at the Riverside.
Looking to open some new discussions on this with Steve Gibson very soon.
Many of us attended the Cardiff City game where away fans stood with rails in front of them and proper seats to use. This would likely be the template for similar installed rail seats in part of the South Stand and away end at Riverside - if Boro exec agree.
I will link some pics of Cardiff in my next reply.

Fook the away end!!

Theyre not locked in like the early examples?
No. They are not allowed to be locked.
Rail seats were required to be locked down as a seat by UEFA for UEFA tournament- hence in Germany the massive popular ends behind goals all had to be in the seat mode and not locked away.

I've just been looking at England v North Macedonia tickets and it seems that Old Trafford also has a section for standing.
Yes it does - several Premier stadia put in standing this season. Remember the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened with lower sections with rail seats - ie standing. Boro fans stood there for the FA Cup replay just before COVID 19 lockdown.

Brentford, QPR and Wolves joined Cardiff City, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Tottenham in offering rail seating this season.

Impact on revenue will be a factor.
Big Clubs - the bet it is will be revenue enhancing as they get more people in.
Bit of a no brainier really
Smaller clubs - opposite effect and a difficult sell to any Board.

You could argue it will open up the game to those who can’t afford seat prices.
Clubs who are keen on supporting their local communities in this way may take a punt.
I wouldn’t hold your breath for us
