Ryan Nyambe

Seems like a good signing (ability wise), but if he wants McNair playing/ competing for RCB, and we also have Dijksteele there, then he's not likely to be playing there, unless one of them is going?

Jones is RWB of course, and up to now we still also have Spence, and also Fisher (albeit I don't think we'll see him again). Dijksteele could fill in at RWB too (and be filled in by McNair or Linehan if need be), but I think we would/ should be expecting Jones to play most games unless we're going to try to protect his energy.

So where is this lad going to play, considering most of his games are played at right back, and we don't play with a right back? It doesn't seem like he's going to be able to attack or create anywhere near as well as Jones, and probably won't have the "presence" as a RCB.

Doesn't seem to make much sense, unless we're looking at options if we play a back four?

Can't say I know anything about him, but it's a position we do need back up in.

He'd be our first Namibian player too, which would be good for trivia in years to come.

I get that but what makes you think there is a divide? If that is in fact the policy I'd be surprised if Wilder wasn't aware if it prior to joining.
Anyway, I would think decisions are made on a number of factors, not just age. Otherwise Howson wouldn't have been given a new contract and we wouldn't have been interested in McGoldrick.
Big transfer fees are a different matter.
I might be wide of the mark, but it just seems to me like we are linked with older players who you’d imagine would be fairly easy to get over the line, however nothing materialises. Then you would also have to probably say that it’s the management team (Wilder / coaches) who would prefer the tried and tested route (McGoldrick, Gayle, Smith, Rhodes(?)). But this doesn’t really align with the clubs new policy(?) of purchasing players who would end up having no resale value. The deals we have done so far are loans and players who you would probably be able to make your money back on at least if sold

I think we can do both, as long as we limit the amount we spend on fees/wages for the older players

Wilder may see him as more versatile than some do on here. Jones wasn't a wing back when he first came into the side, nor McNair a centre back.

McNair was a centre back for Man Utd, no idea where he played for Sunderland but I think we just had him in Midfield for ages as we had no midfield and thought he could fit there, and think McNair preferred it there. Where a player prefers might not be their best position mind.

I think the way we played last year Jones was more of a winger than wing back, as the defence often shifted over one to the right to give him that freedom, and we needed that as he was our most creative threat (under Wilder at least). We'll be less lop sided this year with adding Giles, so may be more of a wing back role on paper. Wing back roles can be different for different teams though, and I'd expect us to be dominating teams so most of the work will be high up the pitch, rather than a wing back for a poor side spending most of their time at the back.

There was a quote many years ago when McNair wanted to play a more attacking role for Man Utd, and Sir Alex Ferguson pretty much told him "you are a centre back". I trust his judgement haha.

I'm sure Wilder has considered all of that. I'd imagine he's this year's Lee Peltier, but with a bit more about him

I don’t think the club hierarchy want to invest in any new signings over the age of 30 because this predominately means they have no sell on value, and we have recently been burned heavily on big investments with next to no resale value.
If we were to bring Smith in it would probably be a one year contract with the potential of an extension, I reckon
