Ryan Nyambe

Sounds like we have opted for the younger player, with a sell-on value, rather than the older player (Smith in this case)... Seems to be a slight divide within the club around which type of players we are looking to bring in

Wilder said last week that Fisher is out for the remainder of the year😕. So that's 18 months crocked and only signed a 2 year deal.

I'm not sure how many players come back from 18 months out these days.

We will probably not see him again on a Boro shirt.
Wasn't fisher 2.5 years?

I think he’s misinterpreted wilder comments. Wilder said McNair will battle it out with Dijksteel.

McNair is suspended first game so Dijksteel will start first game anyway. I hope he plays well as I’m with you, I think Dijksteel should play in that position
I really rate dijksteel, but we've never seen Mcnair play as the right sided overlapping centre back. That position is tailor made for him. I think he will push his game to another level

Maybe but I just think Dijksteel is too important to leave out. His link play with Crooks and Jones is class and his recovery running get back is massive for us. We need that pace.

Why do you think that?
I don’t think the club hierarchy want to invest in any new signings over the age of 30 because this predominately means they have no sell on value, and we have recently been burned heavily on big investments with next to no resale value.

remember he played RWB for Northern Ireland and played well, that 'overlapping' part of ''overlapping CB' is similar to the role of a RWB

Agree, but as a "overlapping" centre back you are the player creating the overload so are often unmarked. Slightly easier in that respect and on the occasions you are marked you tend to have a player marking you who has been dragged out of position. Either a forward tracking back or a centre half/midfielder covering

I think McNair is braver and more confident than Dijksteel. I really like him don't get me wrong, but he's had some really poor games away from home getting caught in possession when he turns back to goal. Sometimes hes week as p*ss when he's in a 50/50. But he can improve on these things as a young player. His recovery tackles are very good though and I think the battle for a place in the team with him and mcnair will be a very good one.

We've lost Bamba, Peltier and Wood. Hall will be off asap. So we need 3-4 players in just to fill the gaps. Giles, Lenihan and Nyambe fill 3 positions, left footed CB give us quite a few options at the back. Bola covers LCB / LWB.
Good work imo👍

Now.......those pesky strikers.......🤔🤔

I get that but what makes you think there is a divide? If that is in fact the policy I'd be surprised if Wilder wasn't aware if it prior to joining.
Anyway, I would think decisions are made on a number of factors, not just age. Otherwise Howson wouldn't have been given a new contract and we wouldn't have been interested in McGoldrick.
Big transfer fees are a different matter.

Just guessing but I think wages are a factor with the aging players.
We know Bamba and Peltier were on low wages. We also know Smith was on quite high wages at Stoke.
I'm assuming we made an exception for Howson because he was a main player last season, where as other aging players have been squad players.

I guess Howson is about continuity and this is his 2nd contract renewal, which will be less than his last contract, which was less than his first contract with us. He'll be on decent wages, but nothing like the wages when he arrived.

Interesting signing if it happens. Makes you wonder what Wilder is planning.

Is Smith no longer signing and Nyambe will add competition for the RWB position, or is he going to compete with Djijsteel for the RCB position, and McNair will be competing for the LCB position, or DM.
I'd suggest Nyambe is a more attractive signing than Smith, the club have probably decided not to offer him anything with a better option available. I'd imagine he's back up RWB who can also cover in the centre if he's required.
