Running Trainers

Any keen runners on here?

What's everybody's go-to trainer?

I switch mine out every 6 months as im out most days - so i like to try different ones.

I'll be honest, i find Brooks trainers very overrated, ive had 2 types in the past couple of years and been completely underwhelmed at the quality, comfort etc of both. They have a huge reputation in the running community though so maybe just me.

Had a few from Saucony, pretty faultless every time and usually my go-to.

Currently using Asics gel kayano 30's, early days but im a big fan.

I mainly run on the fells and am faithful to some old Inov 8 X talon 200s. They're discontinued so I have to keep searching ebay to replace them.
Also really like Altras... good wide toe box and very natural, flexible shoe. if their grip was better on muddy slopes, they'd be my go to shoe.

Yea i've always liked the look of altras but the 0mm drop has put me off, my calfs are pathetic :ROFLMAO:

Had all of the 3 you mention at one time or another. Currently have the Saucony Ride 15 which I'm enjoying. I tend to have a look at what is on offer and get any that have a good review.

I am tempted to get some of those carbon plate super shoes though to see what effect it would have :ROFLMAO:

Adidas Takumi Sen for me. Can usually get them heavily discounted. Find them good for both fast pace and longer run sessions. My only issue with them is I tend to land on my heels so the grip and foam in that section can quickly get destroyed.

Loved the ride 15's.

Friend of mine has those "super" shoes you're on about, he loves them. Saucony Endorphin Speeds to be precise - look for some older versions on the cheap - thats what he did.

I have some New Balance Fresh Foam things and i'm fast as.

Usually use trail running shoes for most of my running as I go road and offroad interchangeably and use Adidas Terrex. I'm not sure if they are any good, but they aren't that expensive and my legs haven't fallen off yet.

I went back to Kayanos with my last pair as I need the support. Doubled in price since I last had a pair, but they are much more comfortable for me.

I was looking at some of those fancy Nike shoes in a shop last week and while my ambling along wouldn't justify the investment, they look pretty cool in a ridiculous way.

0 drop is great, but you just need a little time to adapt. So you wear them to walk around the house in and stuff, which gives the achilles, calf, hamstring chain time to adapt.

tried the x-talon but never really liked them on the fells much prefer the Mud Claw better grip for me, also quite liked the Walshes, but soles fell off after about 2 months happened twice so not very cost effective, so reverted back to Mud Claws

I’ve used pretty much exclusively Asics since I started running a few years ago, have tried Nike and under armour recently but I always return to Asics. I’ve just signed up for a 50 mile ultra marathon and as much as I like asics, I’m now looking at hoka as its a trail 50mile race, the reviews online seem very encouraging, so will be trying them out, just as the build seems more robust. Also if you run regularly you should be changing your running shoes more often than every 6 months, I think they say you get about 200/300 miles out of a pair. Anyway happy hunting mate

dunno about changing shoes so frequently maybe just cynical but sounds like a marketing ploy been running for over 40 years, and normally just run on them until they fall to bits or the grip gets too poor for the mud in the hills even then if it is just the sole I would try and use them when the ground is dry and hard in the summer if we get any decent weather lol
