Ross Barkley

Deli alli, barkley and lingard triple signing! Once upon a time this would be exciting signings but all on way down now

I’d be surprised if he came here his wages are astronomical.
Are they? He was playing for a second rate French team last season. Don’t get me wrong they will be big, but will be a fraction of when he was at Chelsea.

Darlow?
Smith Fry Lenihan Giles?
Barkley Hackney
Forss Akpom McGree
Archer

That would be the makings of a decent side
£0 a week now though.
Doesn't mean he won't have expectations though.

I wonder if MC knows him personally?
I share the doubts over his character, but I'd trust MC if he has knowledge of the guy.
I believe they room shared together for England for a couple of years. This was back when Carrick was the old experienced pro and Ross was the next big thing kid.

You are right he’s currently earning £0. I’d be surprised if he was on huge money last season either, maybe 40-50k at a push.

Who will realistically want him? He hasn’t been Debbie Alli level failure for the last 3 years but he hasn’t been on his top game either. Dropping down a level and being the main man is probably the right thing to do to get back to his best

If there is anything in it, I would trust Carricks judgement. Carrick was in England squads with Barkley so will know him well - in fact Barkley was selected ahead of Carrick for the 2014 World Cup! Hopefully no hard feelings!

Also, the link with Danks at Villa... possibly something in this!

Disagree with 271266. If Chuba goes (hope not), Barkley plays the Merson role that got us promoted?

The point here is that we’ll need to try to squeeze ourselves in the fringes of the Premier league transfer market if we hope to push for another playoff season. I’m sure there will be other suitors for Barkley and of course this could be a smokescreen to give us a better angle on another player.

Where would he play in Carrick's system? Chuba's position?

I think it's an exciting prospect but obviously wouldn't want to be offering a lengthy contract. Like others have suggested, 12 month contract loaded with appearance fees, promotion bonuses etc. He would likely get a better offer elsewhere. Another club who would take a chance on him.

Maybe Luton, Sheff Utd or one of the parachute clubs might offer more, but I wouldn't think any would offer more than a 12 month contract, or significantly more wages to blow us out the water.....purely because he hasn't played his best in about 4 years.

I cannot believe how many people on here think that this guy would be a good addition to any decent squad.
Do they not appreciate the value of team spirit and togetherness to club performance. Check out the embarrassing videos of inebriated behaviour.
The only signing up that I would advocate is for a stag do to Ibiza.
This may be historical and he may have reformed but I would need good evidence to risk harming our current squad.
I am reminded of the sad time that we had a good squad, with a reformed, on the wagon, Paul Merson, then we signed the lunatic by the name of Gazza.

I thought we were the new Boro and didn’t need to buy these deadbeats anymore?

This has car crash written all over it… waste of a shirt number and the equivalent wages would no doubt pay 2-3 other decent hungry players

I’d call him a hasbeen… but to be honest he is a never was
