Robbie Mustoe

How bad was the drinking culture at Boro? Do you think living in Wynard and not Yarm helped?

Do you miss a Swan Pizza in Billingham? Pretty sure it was a Hawaiian he’d get.

Was he surprised to have such a long career at Boro, especially with the influx of foreign players?

How good was Emerson? Should he achieved more?

What game does stick in his mind ( and he can be entitled to say ) that he played the most exceptional ? I personally think it was Arsenal at the semi at OT , where he was more outstanding than he ordinarily was and covered every blade of grass on the pitch several times over 👏

edit . Canyoudigit. Lol I’ve just noticed your post right above mine when I checked mine . Never copied honest 😳

Ask him who'd win in a fight, Fabrizio Ravanelli or Neil Cox. It's OK to tell, it won't go any further than this forum.
Haha . By the same token when they did scrap , did all the Brits stand behind Neil chanting “ Coxy, Coxy ,Coxy “ and all the foreigners opposite side of the restaurant chanting “ Rav, Rav, Rav “ ? and did they spill any tea that Robbo made them clean up ?

When i was in America he was doing the pundit role on their football coverage, you could ask him what he thinks of the growth of the game in America and when he thinks they will win the world cup.

With America being such a large country is this an obstacle to having a 'premier' league and is this slowing down growth of the game.

When is the next time he will be at the Riverside

Good question because its all American Football and rounders , Sorry baseball and even Basketball isn’t it ? Probably in northern states it’s behind ice hockey as well

I thought things would pick up following the world cup that was held there years ago. The infrastructure is there and they have the resources in money and kids. I cant understand why its not more popular. Haven't they got the World cup again in 2026?

As a participation sport it has I think. In terms of numbers of kids playing don't think it's that far behind basketball now, even for boys.

Obviously as a spectator sport it's miles behind.

I'd ask Mustoe:

"what was real story behind why Barmby wanted to leave?".

"Does he have plans to write a book?"

(it'd be fascinating given the era he played through and players he played with. Ayresome park to the Riverside, Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Merson and Gazza, Boksic, Ince, Southgate. Cup finals, relegation, promotions....).

Such a great servant and universally loved player. Really good pundit as well, isn’t it weird that of all people he’s become the Alan Hansen of USA football coverage.

If he could play for one team and one manager now, who would it be and why? And whose place in the team is he taking?

Which current player reminds him of him?

Which era at Boro was the most fun?

Probably one of our best ever value for money players we’ve had ( that we’ve bought ) certainly in modern times 454 appearances for £375k . That’s £825.99 a game 😎

Gestede cost 6000000 and played 71 games = £84,507 quid a game . So theoretically Robbie cost ( approximately each game ) a hundredth of what Gestede did . It’d be funny to tell him that to see his reaction

ps ......In his book Woody and Nord, Gareth Southgate describes Mustoe as "one of the most honest professionals in the game".

Is he aware how revered he is on Teesside ? Tell him not to be embarrassed answering 😉

Yes, ask him to check his pockets to see if he's still got viera in there.

A fantastic player and servent. He saw off many big names in his Boro career.

I remember the day we signed him. I saw it on ceefax (yes ceefax) that he joined with Hendre. I wish we had transfer doubles like that now 😂

He's probably got the best 'Boro icon' interview on the Boro website. He fully blames the club for the Blackburn debacle saying the players wanted to play. Also interestingly says Pollock was his favourite CM partner.

Just a decent bloke👏

Robbie Mustoe, great talent. So underrated, kept everything ticking under the waves of big name arrivals and departures.
Question: Which 3 players from MLS would you like to see join Boro in the summer? Like who could cut it and who we could realistically get our hands on.
