Rishi Sunak's ULEZ Culture War

Hi all - this is my first thread, featuring a piece by North East Bylines' chief crab-killer correspondent. Today's subjects for discussion are Rishi Sunak, the myth of the war on the motorists, and the Cleveland Police Interceptors clown car show.

There was an article in today's Independent (still can't call it i) which I'll try to find. Similar in tone, and pointed out that Sunak didn't even know how to put petrol in a car. Or how to pay for it.

Yep, that was a #RobotRishi's press call for the budget:

1️⃣He borrowed a Kia Rio for the photo op. He actually runs a Range Rover in the UK, and a Lexus and a Beamer at his £4m mansion in Santa Monica, California. Where he actually lives.

2️⃣He'd never been shopping in his life, and tried to swipe his debit card on a barcode reader.

3️⃣He's just like us

Nope, can't find it. Typical. But I did find a good Mark Steel article instead.
I did read somewhere that the vast majority of 20mph zones are unenforcable because local councils decide to put the signs up. If it doesn't come from or is approved by central government, the local council cannot enforce them. The article made it sound like they do, but they can be challenged in court and you would win.

Sorry, but that's not correct. Local authorities don't need permission from central government to introduce 20mph zones, as per the Road Traffic Regulation Act (Amendment) Order 1999. The signage issue is a red herring too. There are specific rules for

No idea, I am just reporting what I read. I think it came from a police chief in the Norfolk constabulary, but I may have got that wrong, it was a couple fo weeks ago I read the article.

Hi Ray!

And a warm welcome to the forum, TCC. I think you should be aware of some rules before you go much further.
1. Don't mention Brexit.
2. Don't mention electric cars.
You can mention electric cars, but only if you agree they're the best invention known to man.
