RIP Golf

What an orator, story teller and deliverer of "one liners". It's been said many times but Alliss is the voice of golf and he'll be sadly missed. A man of great principle as he turned down a knighthood because his father, who thoroughly deserved one, was refused.

RIP "Sir" Peter

Very sad news, just reading the BBC sport pages and so neatly sums him up, did it at the top level yet feet firmly on the ground. Cars reg 3 put, as thre yips did his golf career.
Used to love the round with allis progs, various celebrities playing and chatting, yet of course that how it looked but you can bet he prepped for it.
Loved the comment about rain in Scotland at least ends up as scotch.
Top top commentator, like David Coleman, Richie Benaud, Barry Davies no need to scream and all prepared to criticise what they saw as basically poor play.

For me he was the finest commentator of all time. I could listen to his tales about old golfers all day. He used to make me feel I was out walking the course with him. Sad day
RIP Peter.

"I was watching Carol Vorderman on channel 4 the other day and got aroused. Seven letters! Not bad for a lad who left school at 15 with no O levels".

RIP to a very funny, gentle man

He once at the open was analysing a shot and saying the golfer would probably use a 3 or 4 iron. The camera picked a spectator in the crowd who standing behind the ropes sticks his fingers up at the camera. Aliss quick witted says... “ no I'm reliably informed it will be a 2 iron “.
Quality .

It is a very sad day for Golf. He was THE golf commentator. Infact he was the last of the four great commentators left. I call them my golden trinity of commentating

Peter Allis
Richie Benaud
Bill Mclaren
David Coleman

RIP Peter and keep telling those stories in the great clubhouse in the sky.
