Rio Ferdinand

I have really warmed to Rio since he stopped playing. His personal storyline hasn’t been an easy one either. As a pundit he talks common sense generally, I think he is confident rather than arrogant. He is one of the good guys that i like listening to. That said I do wish he’d shave his beard off, it makes him look like he is wearing one of those awful facial masks Nina Conti uses in her act.

Is it just me that finds his arrogance unbearable. Asked last night who he thought England would prefer in the final, he said England would easily beat both. Is that the Italian side that has conceded one goal in 90 minutes and is unbeaten in 33 games Rio?
Whether you agree with him or not, it is really not arrogant to believe that England is the best team in the tournament.

As it happens, I agree with Rio 100%. England have the best side and the best squad IMO. We are able to control games against sides looking to defend and I expect we will be even more potent against any team that decides to press us. I may be proven wrong tonight or in the final, but I've never felt such confidence in an England team before. And whatever happens this week, there is the promise of even better things to come in the future.

As for Italy, as a team they are greater than the sum of their parts and their togetherness makes them a real threat should we get to the final. However, despite 33 games unbeaten, they are certainly beatable and could easily have lost last night to an imperfect Spain side. They have actually conceded 2 goals -not 1- in 90 minutes in the last 2 games, but they have only scored 3 goals in 90 minutes in 3 knockout games. So perhaps they are not quite the goal threat that some would have you believe.

Anyway, let's just enjoy the game tonight and hopefully we will get to see on Sunday who out of England and Italy is the best side in Europe. That's not to dismiss Denmark's chances before anyone calls me arrogant, but despite Denmark being formidable opponents, I really think England can get the job done.

Lots of comments here totally ignoring the fact i had a problem with him saying we would easily beat either teams. I dont mind confidence, but sorry, very few matches in semi finals or finals are ‘easy’. So yes that is arrogance

He’s not a current player. If he thinks we will comfortably win the tournament he’s allowed to say that. For what it’s worth I agree as do many others. We could all be wrong including Rio but I hope not , I thought it was rather refreshing see a pundit be so confident and bullish with his opinion

I agreed with him. My confidence increased watching last night's game. Both sides looked very beatable with those performances. I think we'll struggle more against Denmark than we will against Italy.

I think denmark is the biggest hurdle ...in the final with crowd/country behind us i would back us to win against anyone. The team is on a mission to create their own history. Just like boro in cardiff

well me too but that’s mostly because it’s almost been expected that England will blow it at the final hurdle or earlier over the years.

from a footballing perspective, Italy are better than Denmark. Denmark have really only beaten sides you would pretty much expect them to beat, so it’s hard to say if they’re a huge threat. But I think they’re a solid side with enough capable players to beat anyone on their day.

it’s a strange thing. If tonight was a final, I would favour England much more than I do with it being a semi, just because we never make the final.

certainly not an easy game. With Ukraine, I felt the only way we could lose was if we had a shocker. That’s not the case with this one.

Another mumbling incoherent buffoon. BBC certainly know how to pick them.
