Riley

You wonder from his perspective whether he'd prefer to stay here in January? Play in our biggest cup games in nearly twenty years against one of the biggest teams in the world or play games against India , Uzbekistan and Syria?
I'd never criticise him whatever decision he made but you wonder if he's tempted to say I want to stay and "work on my fitness"..

Can't the national team have him suspended if he refuses to attend without a good reason?

It's playing for his country at a major tournament, one they're 2nd favourites for.

I'd actually respect him less if he'd sooner ditch his country just for a cup match that we're probably going to lose comfortably anyway.

Country > Club.

At least with Luongo retiring this month, he's 31, has already won the Asian Cup and Ipswich are gunning for automatic promotion.

It's very frustrating that it interferes heavily with our season, but it's not McGree's fault that they've decided to host it in Qatar.

Obviously he would start tomorrow if really fully fit, but surely there have been times this season when he hasn’t started although available ?

Not since Cardiff cos he's been injured. The first few games of the season he didn't start when he was fit I suppose?

Well the aussie pretourney training starts on the 1st of janaury so I'd hope he gets in the side this week like

Only started 2 of our first 6 games this season. Which was pretty weird
Pretty weird, I’d say pretty obvious if he chooses to declare himself fit from a non specific injury just in time to make the Aussie squad, how much he cares about playing for the Boro.

What exactly is non-specific about an injury to his plantar fascia? I'd say that's pretty specific. Its not like they've just said he's got some sort of foot injury. They've named the specific part of the foot where the problem is.

Out for months but back just in time to play for Australia.
Club racked with massive injury crisis.
If he goes he is obviously not bothered about where his bread is buttered. Carrick should remember that when picking teams

It’s positive news, why can’t it just be seen as that. If he’s fit enough to play in a major tournament for his country good luck to him. Wasn’t sure about him when signed under Wilder, but really blossomed under Carrick. Going to be interesting to see whether our injury and availability crisis changes our transfer policy in January or whether Law McCabe etc….are given an opportunity?

I am not in the least bit shocked that certain fans are once again making up conspiratorial nonsense about players faking injuries.

No idea why fans do it.

Even when they're told exactly what the problem is, some will pretend that it's a cover up.

It's not ideal but on the positive side it is going to take him a good few weeks to get match fit so when he comes back from the Asia Cup he should be flying and hopefully Australia won't over play him and make the situation worse
