Rich person /people you respect

You have to respect Elon Musk for what he’s done with cars and rockets and the other things he’s in the early stages with.
Used to like him, but he's just a rich tosser, trying to make money out of things we're going to need. Good businessman though, and a very good product man/ engineer. This still didn't stop him getting shown up to how naïve he could be, by being forced into buying twitter, for too much, when he didn't even really want it, and he's wrecked it.

Thing is though, the guy and his products could end up saving the world, or saving a lot of lives indirectly and directly, from his investment into these products, so I would rather he be making money out of those, than oil and gas, cigarettes, junk food or whatever.

Bill Gates is a far better choice I think.

Anyone self made usually profits from the labours of minions .
Some break themselves in half during the process too mind, or don't actually get to enjoy, or get much enjoyment from what they have. Self made people are often wired different, they wouldn't make it if they weren't, and they can never settle/ relax or not be working.

They also don't set the market rate for basic labour, and some pay more than the rate, or provide a ladder into a decent company where labourers can progress further up the ladder.

They often try to show that hard and good work can pay off, but won't have time for those who are not interested in that.

Not saying they're all like that of course, but a lot are.

I bet anyone not self-made, who just inherits, lucks themselves into something or knows someone who helped them get an "in" is 10x worse, on average.

Paid much more intelligent people to do the innovating?
Show me a billionaire who hasn’t profited from other people’s labour or innovations.

I didn’t say he was a good person. I very much don’t think he is but there’s no doubt he’s pushed the world into a new era of electric vehicles and cheaper space travel. He’s brought the internet to extremely remote areas via affordable satellites and is making the tech that will transform the workplace and help disabled people to walk and see again. It takes as much talent to create the environment for these things to be achieved as it does to create the breakthroughs yourself. The fact he’s been able to do it in so many different industries is proof that it’s no fluke.

I wasn’t referencing his exploitation of others, more pointing out that people wrongly laude him as a genius when he’s proved himself to be pretty far from it & in fact struggles with much of what he’s credited with innovating

Julian Richer, owner of Richer Sounds. Seems to have his head screwed on. Shops have always been decent, price match, fair with dealing with issues. Few years back he gave every employee a thousand quid for every years service they had. Out 60% of the company into an employees ownership trust too, which is how the giveaway was funded - the company "paid" him £9m of it but he gave £3.5m back to the staff to pay those bonuses
Big tory donor apparently

Ricky Gervais.
‘new money’
Didn’t make good money until 40. Has a lot of input into animal charities along with doing a lot of work for various other charities.
Satirises his wealth which I find funny.

Big tory donor apparently
He donated once apparently to get David Cameron to something for Amnesty international, and said he wouldn't do it again

Interview about it here where he talks about it. Says Boris probably a good bloke to go out to the pub with but too many mistakes made etc. seems like a decent bloke to me.
