Reports of Derby going into liquidation

I read about their debts to HMRC but also about their £10m loan that is secured against the stadium. How can you sell a stadium and then use it as security for a loan when you don't own it?

I’m not comfortable with Boro fans joking and poking fun at another club on the verge of liquidation. It’s in poor taste and ignores our club’s history.

Yes, the people in charge made mistakes and yes, social media has allowed some of their most vocal fans to brag and boast about gaming the system before it all collapsed in on them, but that doesn’t represent the majority of people who just want to see their local club play football on a weekend.

They have been found out and they’re being punished. We need to let it go and move on. Kicking them while they’re down only serves to make our fans look bad.

Exactly @SilentProf we should now be supporting your average Derby fans attempts to save their club, it means as much to them as Boro do to us. I've spent a summer wondering if I'll ever get to watch my team again, when I was a kid, it wasn't pleasant

Can't agree more with the above and why I was embarrassed that Gibson was persuing damages from them.

As far as I'm aware HMRC doesn't do deals.

Not should they. If they do not enforce the debt it just becomes another mechanism by which the nefarious and incompetent can avoid paying their debts

Whilst I agree that it's in bad taste to poke fun at Derby right now I absolutely support Gibsons decision to challenge the rule breaking, despite the sad consequences for Derby supporters.

I feel for their fans, this isn't of their doing, but clubs have to be on a level playing field, so to speak, and when the rules are broken they should be accountable.

Let's not forget that the EFL had no appetite to take Derby on and Gibson had to force their hand to do so.

The integrity of the competition is paramount, otherwise why bother at all.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for Derby fc. It's a shame for the fans, but football life will go on. They may have to support their team in a much lower tier or support the new rams fc.

I have sympathy for some but not many of there fans. if so many of them weren’t still claiming it was a witch hunt and the EFL and Gibsons fault or that it’s only because of covid etc, as soon as the rest stop blaming everyone else and lose the delusions then they don’t really deserve sympathy, for now it’s simply tough luck they shouldnt of been gloating about circumventing the rules and claiming they were untouchable and Mel could do what he wanted.

i'm only embarrassed at the size of the claim. There should be compensation for being cheated out of a league position and play off spot, that's for sure. Clubs should feel the threat of legal action for cheating is a viable and legitimate threat in future.

agree to a certain extent was expecting around 10mil but looks like he basically thought a playoff position gives you a 25% chance of promotion with that promotion worth approx 180milion so he went with a quarter of that figure.

Also don’t forget about players that we tried to sign and they gazumped us. Plus if we ended up paying more in wages/transfer fees if Derby came in for a player where we had an agreement.

Don't get your point 'nowthen'
He's saying HMRC does make deals and he's right, certainly multinational companies that don't declare any profits in the UK make "arrangements" to keep HMRC onside. They negotiate some payment based on the reported revenue that's less than they would pay if they made 5% profit from UK operations.

That's understandable because if HMRC didn't do deals, they would get nothing from Amazon and Apple and co.

If a company goes phtang then HMRC will collect what they can, being preferential creditors they collect before most other creditors.

If a company is teetering on the brink - and collecting the arrears will send it over - then they'll generally come to some arrangement, like deferring payments. Again the principle is collecting something is better than nothing.

HMRC will not generally renegotiate tax bills for companies that are solvent and profitable. If the company has to run lean for years to pay tax bills, HMRC will make sure it does. Directors are pressured.

Where this leaves Derby County, I don't know. I can't imagine anyone with a brain being even vaguely interested. The EFL is in a tricky position here because anyone interested in buying Derby is not going to pass the "fit and proper" test. On the other hand if they do not allow a takeover then Derby is going to disappear.

It's a mess.

Who is going to pay Gibson his £46mil if this happens ?
Perhaps we could come up with an offer of settlement?

LW Louie Sibley for Toyosi Olusanya
MF Max Bird for Lewis Wing
LB Lee Buchanan for Hayden Coulson

all under 21 which frees up another spot in our squad for an over age loan to come in. no transfer fees necessary and although not the £46m that we were looking for we would have three players that could potentially be worth £15m in the future.

Derby County would snap our hands off for £46m for those three players (one of which is out of contract in the summer)

there is making mistakes in a misguided attempt to make it or stay in the big leagues, however, this is a prolonged attempt to game the system and cheat.

This is not a victimless crime, it cheats clubs like Wycombe and Bury, it cheats the rest of the teams in the league trying to win promotion fairly and squarely, and lastly, it cheats the Derby fans, who will ultimately pay the price long after the shyster Mel Morris has foogged into the sunset.

screw 'em.

After Gibson first complained to the EFL, the vitriol he and Boro received from Derby fans was shocking. Total denial from them Derby did anything wrong.....which has now proved to be bollox. So until the Derby supporters apologise and admit the cheated and Gibson was 100% vilified in his actions........ bollox to them.
I do not want the club to go into liquidation, but they have cheated, overspent on purpose, now have to suffer the consequences.
And to think we have fans who want Gibson to sell up and step aside for any random billionaire........🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
