Relegated Teams

Bournemouth are backed by a rich shady Russian though so what’s to stop him riding roughshod over the rules as they did before and just carry on spending. As it wouldn’t be the first time.

If Bournemouth don't go up they are going to have to get rid of a lot of high earners as we had to.
They've made £90m in losses over the last two seasons and owe £124m in loans.
Even on their worst days, most championship clubs attendances are higher than their capacity.
This gamble may be a bridge too far.
They made a £60 million loss to June 2020, but then sold £50 million of players to mitigate the loss. Most of the debt is to group companies, so (like MFC) they won't be pressed to repay it.

They'll get another parachute payment next season, so I think they'll be fine ("fine" in football terms just means that there's someone stupid enough to keep footing the bill).

Yet you want Bournemouth to get promoted?
The archetype of a club wrongly labelled as plucky.
As I said before I don’t care enough about any other team that I want them to go up. And that includes Bournemouth. The schadenfreude in me I guess.

If two of the promoted sides also come down - it will show up the massive gulf between the divisions and also just how much advantage parachute payments are in the time of pandemic.

I think "the time of pandemic" is the important part of what you say.

It has actually become less common for relegated teams to win automatic promotion at the first time of asking. Assuming Norwich and Watford do it, they will be the first teams to do in 4 seasons. Parachute payments haven't covered the massive financial hit of relegation like they used to. If you go back to around the start of the 00s, I think there is a run of 10 or so seasons when one or two teams did it every year.

Ultimately, we have to have parachute payments; no promoted team has a chance of staying up without them, as they won't dare offer competitive contracts.

Norwich and Watford certain to go up automatically, if Bournemouth go up via the play offs that would be all three relegated teams going up at the first time of asking.
Has that ever happened before?
Good question, it must have happened before, generally one of the relegatyed teams struggle but over a long period I would have thought all 3 teams must have bounced back together at one time
When we went back up in 1998 with Forest, Sunderland, thankfully, lost in the playoff final as that would have been one time

very surprised at the stats

18/19 74 19/20 70

* 5th place was last play-off position

2016/17 must have been a competitive season and 2012/13 must have been a poor season with just 68 points for a top 6 spot
