Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough Council Merger

😂😂yep Middlesbrough right people for the right job. 1 example cycle path Linthorpe road
That was Andy Preston's administration. No Labour councillors on his top table.
Every post you've made on this thread demonstrates your fundamental lack of understanding as to how a council operates. You are clearly unable to distinguish between the role of a council employee and that of a councillor.

They can’t stop tinkering, but the one common theme, since it reflects changes that have happened under governments of both colour, and in areas under all political control, is that the county councils set up in 1972 have proved not fit for purpose. The Met counties were all abolished in the 80s, the nearly mets like Cleveland and Humberside in the 90s, and the rest have been dropping like flies since. With the abolition of North Yorkshire County Council last year the only 1970s style set up left in the entire north of England is the one covering the rural bits of Lancashire (Northumberland calls itself one, but it isn’t, it’s a UA).

Given this near universal consensus of action, I find the nostalgia for the days of Cleveland bizarre.

People in parts of Redcar and Cleveland identity as being from Middlesbrough pretty much until you get too Redcar town. Redcar and Middlesbrough are connected to each other that said, I can’t imagine people from places like loftus guisbrough etc identity as “ smoggies” Could be wrong but always got the impression these towns are Leeds fan territory and very much indentify with North Yorkshire other than Teesside

I live in a borough which combined with a neighbouring borough a couple of years ago.. I don't recall being asked to vote on it and I haven't noticed any improvement in service.

Didn’t Malcolm Allison want to change the Boro to Cleveland Cowboys or was that a drug fuelled dream?!

It was indeed Andy Preston and his misfits of Tories and "Independent" councillors that agreed the cycle lane, but it was actually paid for by Houchen- another Tory with a power trip, he is also currently insisting that the council will pay for it if we remove it, even if he has to take us to court. The public hate it, but Houchen isn't interested in that, he just wants to make sure a Labour mayors manifesto is broken, it make take a little longer than we hoped, but he won't win.

Middlesbrough is in Yorkshire ; just happens to be on one of the banks of the Tees.
