Recruitment Team

The recruitment has been extremely underwhelming in terms of permanent signings in the last 4 windows
so the success in the loan market counts for nothing? Even if I agree with your assessment of the previous four "windows" which would include Marcus Forss, Riley Mcgree, Daragh Lenihan and tommy Smith to name four pretty decent additions.

The Villa loans don’t count because Danks got them, apparently. Like Wilder got Steffen.

Scott had nothing at all to do with McGree, Smith, Lenihan… Giles… Forss. He did sign Muniz though. That was definitely him.

The last 4 windows under Scott have seen us buy:
2021-22 January - McGree and Boyd Munce for Fees; Balogun and Connolly on loan.
All are/were underwhelming, there is no big profit likely anywhere.
2022-23 Summer - Forss, Hoppe, Clarke for Fees, Lenihan, Smith and Roberts on Frees, Giles, Mowatt, Steffen and Muniz on Loan.
Forss is worth what we paid, Lenihan has been decent, Giles was a great loan. But a pretty lean window and no profit in sight.
2022-23 January - Barlaser for a Fee; Archer and Ramsey on Loan.
A poor buy, but 2 great loans whoever got them here.
2023-24 Summer - Dieng, Van Den Berg, Silvera, Rogers for Fees; Gilbert, Glover, Jones on Frees.
Time will tell. Dieng looks good and Rogers has real potential.

Overall I see nothing we have acquired that looks to be a big future transfer earner...or current star performer bar Dieng.

Did Akpom look like a big future transfer earner or star performer?

People would have your arm off for Balogun now, wouldn’t they? That may be more about how he was managed or the system Wilder played, the lad is clearly very talented. Connolly’s talent was scouted and vetted by Brighton, who we should be aiming to emulate apparently. If there’s one thing that club can do is spot a player… how did he come all the way through there if he’s not got some talent?

There’s also been a complete change of staff and revamp of the scouting network. Don’t these things take time to come to fruition?

And, as I said the other day, the club has posted finishes of 17, 10th, 7th and 4th in the past four season. Which isn’t bad considering all the recruitment staff are sh*t, the chairman and chief executive haven’t got a clue, and only Carrick knows what’s he doing.

How are we doing this is things are so bad?

I guess something has been right over the last couple 3 years.

Akpom was recruited long before Scott came.
For balance I also didn't include Payero who arrived pre Scott.

Connolly was and is absolutely *****. He hasn't "come through" at Brighton - he has been binned off by them as useless.
Balogun did nothing at all here and nobody cared that he went back.

How are we doing what VAN?
Sitting bottom of the league (24th) with no LB, no CF and a hand full of lucky dips?
Still there's £35m profit there.

Do you not think we could easily double the fees we paid for Mcgree and Forss if someone came in for them? Lenihan would bring in a decent fee too. The rest are mainly low risk gambles, loans and players who haven’t had enough time to prove themselves yet. Even Clarke looked pretty good when he played. You can’t account for serious long term injuries.

Absolutely not. Nobody is going to pay £6.5m for McGree or £6m for Forss as things stand. Even if they did then it would just about cover what we have lost on Clarke, Hoppe and Boyd Munce.
Barlaser isn't looking a good bet as a player or future profit either.

Admittedly I thought Forss was about £1.5m. Not sure where I got that from. Both were key players for us last season though and scored important goals. I think Mcgree is easily a £5m player and Forss wouldn’t be too far behind. You get very little for that money these days.

Who on earth would pay £5m for Riley McGree? Let alone £6.5m which would be twice his fee.
I personally think Forss is worth more than him and is a better, more valuable player.

All just opinion but I think McGree is worth exactly what we paid for him. Any top championship side would take him for £4m.

He's featured in pretty much every game under Carrick - and played over 70 mins in 80%.

I guess we just have different opinions. I think we’re a much better team with Mcgree than we are without him. If we accepted a bid under £5m for him I would see that as poor value and I think plenty of others would too.

Lenihan has been brutal for us. Let’s be honest here when you’re trying to say players are gems.

His distribution is woeful, the new Dutch lad will take over in the not too distant future

Mcgree the longer he’s been here the better he has got. He’s been a good buy imo
