Recruitment Promises

I wish they'd stop fûckīng around and just make the 'window' five working days to complete a medical and sign the paperwork, and register the player.

The summer one should shut before the league season kicks off from League 2 up too.
To be honest I'd rather it go back the other way like it used to be. One transfer deadline in March/April time. Allow players to be transferred at any point in the season before that. It would stop the panic buying.

Although I would have liked to have seen us get Tyler Morton, paying the suggested £10m for him would have felt an awful lot like going back to the McNair and Saville days. Not sure that he's going to make it at the Premier league level. Liverpool have stalled his development so he'll almost certainly go out on loan next season.

If we're still in the Championship next season, I'm kind of hoping that we can strike a loan deal for Stefan Bajčetić. He ought to be fully recovered from his injury and be at a stage where he needs a full season playing. He may go to a top tier league on loan but I don't see him being that close to the Liverpool 1st team.

Alexis Beka Beka

Born in France, Beka Beka holds French and Congolese nationalities

On 29 September 2023, Beka Beka made headlines for threatening to commit suicide by jumping from the Magnan viaduct in Nice. Negotiations with a club psychologist were ongoing while emergency services, firemen, and the military were involved in the operation. The viaduct is approximately 100 meters high, causing traffic disruptions on the A8 autoroute Beka Beka was safely removed from the scene by emergency services

We were told in the build up to the transfer deadline that planning for departures and replacements was done and that the club were ready for all eventualities yet it seems that that wasn’t the case. Surely we would have known the cost of the Armstrong’s, the Morton’s and the status of the Smallbones well in advance if this was the case. It all strikes of last minute panicking again and I won’t believe a word that comes out of Carricks mouth on this issue in the future
Carrick isn't in control of signings. In terms of talking about all eventualities he was clearly talking about LL, who has been replaced, not any fans wish list on midfielders/defenders. So i'm not sure what you think he's said that's untrue.

Yes, obviously a very difficult time for the lad. But he’s back training now and looking for a club.. many players have faced various different challenges both on and off the pitch.

Do Nice still hold his registration and so could they be due a fee?
They paid 12mill for him, that's a lot of money to write off.

No his contract was terminated. He has played a first team game for nearly 2 years so would be a massive gamble and would probably take ages to get anywhere near match fit.

There was still panic buying then with the added issue of your best players being constantly tapped up for the first 6 months of the season

But then you'd have speculation all the time. Players expecting to be leaving for 6 months.

Still happens in the background now. Just doesn't come out until the window when the official bids are tabled.
There's still conversations happening all year round between clubs, agents and players.
It's probably worse because there's deals being lined up that can't happen for months until a window re-opens.

My point is that the club assured us that plans were in place for every eventuality- evidently not
They can have a plan but if we don’t meet a selling clubs valuation, or the player doesn’t want to come etc then the plan is flawed.

I don’t think Scott/Carrick or anyone else would come out and say ‘we will 100% sign a good quality replacement for every player we lose’ but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a plan.

The plan was probably realising which of our players there would be interest in and identifying replacements. There’s no way they would have discussed anything with selling clubs before the window was open.

I feel that this is a little bit harsh. Clearly the first choice midfield target was Glen Kamara, however there is nothing you can do if a club with billionaire backers blows you out of the water. You can have all the plans in place in the world, but ultimately they are just plans. It doesn't mean they will come off. If the right player isn't available, or the finances don't work on it, I would rather the club wait until the right player is attainable. The last thing we want is to end up with a full squad, whereby we have too many players who aren't good enough for where we want to get to, which is ultimately what happened come January. Look at where the players we have moved on have gone, Clarke bottom 3, Jones bottom 3, Hamilton League 1, Gilbert league 1. Ultimately we need to massively improve the base level of our squad, as it wasn't anywhere near as good as the majority of us thought it was in the first half of this season.

agreed terrible idea to sign him
"We are looking at that player and trying to work out where we are and where he is so we'll see"

Given his status as a free agent and availability outside of the transfer window, the deal is an appealing one financially, but concerns have lingered about his fitness. Fosu-Mensah is capable of playing in any position across the back line, as well as at defensive midfield, and has plenty of experience in the Premier League and Bundesliga.
