Recommend me a laptop (please)

no, but I buy laptops all the time for my customers. tbh there are loads of laptops that are very similar, but I quite like the build quality of the hp & lenovo's.
Got a virus through lenovo bloatware. They'll never get a second chance.

My hinge snapped on a hp. Very annoying as it had decent specs. Tried to get it fixed but it didn't really work and the screen kept breaking. Next one I bought was built like a tank.

The gadge I got to try and repair it said a lot of companies are using poor plastic to make them lightweight to try and keep up with apple. He said it was the hot air coming out of it which had made the plastic brittle.

Advice is don't use the laptop in bed or not on a solid surface or anywhere that might interrupt the airflows.

To be honest I'd always go for a refurb - much better value for money. As long as it's not falling to bits and has had the reset done properly then you're getting savings of a similar ilk to buying a car with a few k on it vs brand new.

You need to know how to properly lookup the specs - particularly the CPU as there's way more to it than the GHz count - but that's true of a new one to be honest. Another advantage is the reset will have blitzed off the bloatware as well.

Never gone wrong getting an OK looking Lenovo refurb from eBay in the past.

Just following up on this my Lenovo seems to have factory reset itself (or similar) earlier today.

Anyone had experience with Honor? Not a brand I'm familiar with but spec looks decent for the price.

This a good deal Ryzen 7 is a good processor especially for gaming and 16gb of ram to me is minimum these days. Beware if you buy a laptop with 8gb, most these days are not upgradeable because the ram is soldered to the motherboard with no spare slots.

One thing to watch out for is keyboard layout if you're not using a separate keyboard.

I've used a few newer laptops where everything seems to be about space saving and certain keys are basically unusable (e.g. Home/End).

If you're doing anything serious with an art package for the photography then make sure your normal shortcut combos are easy to press.

they're both ok - the asus has the slightly higher spec, but I would suggest they are slightly lower quality. but we really are talking minor differences - go for it! in football management terms, its like comparing carrick & o'neil.....
I need a desktop for trading, I want to run 4 screens off it eventually. 1.5k ish.

My laptop has passed out, trouble is a lot of things I am seeing are sideways steps.

Current spec is i7 and 16gb and it was starting to struggle with what I am doing (30 internet tabs up at once, several Excel sheets, trading software price feed etc)

Any views appreciated

This one is arriving from Amazon today - I'll let you know how I get on.

Some reviews have criticised the screen (washed out and viewing angle isn't the best) but there's got to be some compromise at that price!

Once I've invested in a bigger desk I might dock it anyway with monitor keyboard etc.

sorry, high end pc's are not my area of expertise. I'd be tempted to play safe and go for a good spec Dell or something.

Typing this on my new laptop and I must say I'm mightily impressed so far. Screen much better than expected. Slight gripe on the quality of the keyboard (feels a little shoddy) but, other than this site, most of my typing is saved for my work laptop anyway!

The "enter" key is too small as well. Other than that, all good!
