Rebecca's Back

She was really poor, gave some very questionable decisions both ways, and booked plenty when there was probably only one bookable challenge in the game (Aylings).

Not that the standard of male officiating has been much better this season. It's not a question of gender, it's a question of capability, and she was poor.

I was in the north.

Plenty of middle aged men screaming things like "Stupid F***ing tart" because her linesman got a decision wrong.
The linesman had to see round the goal, net and through the keeper! she was 30 yards away and was looking straight at it. That was a very amateurish decision. And a ref defering to their lino in that circumstance is poor.

For a corner?

How is somebody 30 yards away meant to have a better view than somebody directly in line with the decision.

If it was out, it was marginal, in no world did she have a better view than the linesman.

If that had been a man, the stadium would have raised a mild whimper.

Because he can't see through their keeper, the way he dived blocked the lino's view to some degree. Don't get me wrong, it was poor from the lino. But the ref was looking straight at it.

She can't see the line from 30 yards away.

The official who's actually meant to judge these things said it wasn't out.

I was pretty far away in the stand, as was literally every fan there, every one could see it was out by a mile.

If a ref can't see the line from 30 yards away, they need to retire.

A compotent, confident ref should have overuled an incorrect call from a lino.

The refs angle means she can’t make that call with certainty, she is relying on the linesman to make the line calls in most cases unless she has a good view of the line and curvature of the ball, she doesn’t at 22 yards away and at right angles to the line.

If the linesman can’t see it cos the keepers body is in the way, that’s fine, but it’s not her fault.

The ref isn’t in the stand and doesn’t have an elevated position. She is, what, 5 foot 8 and 22 yards away and not looking down the line. She can’t make the call with certainty.

And this is why there are Assistant referees, although the final call is from the referee

Good job there wasn't a foul just inside the box, couldn't possibly give a penalty if that's the case

I always think the opposition are more likely to score from our corners:ROFLMAO:

Glad we managed to score from one of Sheff Wed's in the last game

Have a look (from about 8 seconds!), referee is much closer and seems to be looking straight at it, the linesman/assistant referee is much further away and has the goal and the keeper in his line of sight.
