I agree, middle of a back 3 is quite a comfortable position to play in which is why you see older players still able to perform there e.g. Sol Bamba, Thiago Silva etc.

It is no coincidence that all of our defenders games are suddenly improving and they are becoming better players in the eyes of fans since we have moved to back 3/5. Ayling can focus on going forward which suits his game, the centre backs all have cover so they don't get exposed as much, and they also have two grafters playing in front of them giving them protection.
