Rav van den Berg

Carrick says: believe and have faith. Trust the boys and they will all deliver when the time comes.... (y)

Rav looks very assured. Hopefully he keeps developing and eventually becomes a top flight CB.

Clarke doesn't have the pace to hold down a place really, but he's a leader on the pitch which we lack., Paddy was excellent though.

Fry has no pace either, and McNair will likely be leaving in the summer.

I've said to my son loads of times Rav will be our first £30m transfer. He is ridiculous for his age. That Sky journalist that revealed it was gobsmacked we had signed him. Enjoy him for a couple of years because he's going all the way to the top.

Massive kudos to the recruitment team. We've all given them loads of (deserved) stick over the years but this is what it's all about.

Find hidden gems on the cheap, polish them, enjoy them while you can and sell them to the highest bidder when it's time. If you can hit one RVDB out of 10 cheap young players you sign, you're doing great.

I also think Lath will go on to big things, really rate him, and possibly Greenwood too. At the very least if we sold them all tomorrow we'd make a significant profit.

Great performance. Young Dael will struggle to get back in. In his brief cameo Clarke looked much more assured than Fry also. I like Dael, but reckon his career would benefit from a move, not sure who would be interested that he would see as a step up?
When do players stop getting called young? I mean he's 26 he is young but not in footballing terms, jesse lingard was 18 for about 40 years.

Played very well last night. His pass selection in second half got a bit sloppy and put players under instant pressure but all good on the whole. Delighted Clarke is back especially with Lenihan out for season.

He's going to develop into a fantastic player in a few years and looked great last night, very comfortable all game.

But I wouldn't write off Dael, especially after one game where the opposition offered little at the sharp end of the pitch.

I also though him moving inside meant we looked much better at full back when coming forward. Bangura looked good all game too, particularly when defending.

Fry is no longer a youngster.....26 years old now and has not showed signs of being a defensive leader, lacks pace, and gets easily out muscled.. McNair, Clarke and now VDB should be given a crack at the CB spot.

Said it in the summer wouldn't be long before he's first choice. Best CD at the club.

As above, Id be very surprised if he doesn't have a release Claus but providing it's much much in excess of what we paid for him, that's our new model right there.

Also a possibility I think that his next club is already agreed with potentially a deal in place. We shall see.

Loads of hype on Rav. Great prospect but i need to see him in a much sterner test before i label him a diamond. He did a competent job at right back which is in itself a compliment because of his age and you can only face what's in front of you but he played well last night. Hopefully he continues to show promise.

He's far from being the best centre half at the club right now.

Him and McNair have been the two most consistent defenders at the club this season. He's played out of position for most of that time. I don't think he's far from being the best centre half at the club but it is a bold statement to make given the amount of time he's been there. If he plays there the next 4 or 5 games, I think we will all be saying he is the best CB at the club.

I get all the hoo-hah over him amd it's certainly deserved, but the big question for me still remains unanswered; has he got his own song yet?

I think he's done ok at right back. I wouldn't expect him to excel there because that's not his position. I don't agree that he's been the most consistent performer. He's had a couple of poor games.
I don't want to sound like I'm being negative because that's not my intention. He played his first game at centre half for us last night and he played well. Preston were one of the worst sides to come to the Riverside and whilst you can only beat what's in front of you, i wouldn't rush to make a judgment on him based on that game. Leeds, Ipswich and Hull will give us a better idea of where he's at in terms of his development. He's certainly not earned the right to be classed as the best centre half at the club yet. That's a little bit foolish given he's only played one game.
