Putting words into people mouths

in order to win an "argument"

Is this a new thing, maybe a social media thing? I've noticed it seem to be happening a lot lately. People disagree and one person (in this case @Same_as_before ) then claims the other person believes something that is contrary to what they actually believe in order to "win" the argument.

When did that start? I can never remember it when I have had face to face discussions so I wonder if it's a social media thing? It's quite a low form of discourse really. You disagree with someone. Instead of arguing against the point, you claim the other person is saying something they aren't in red to make them look bad. I don't get it? Is it a new technique?

Just seems a shady thing to do for me. I called him out on it today and he just ignored it and carried on arguing and insulting.

it’s irritating how people get away with it too. How can just ignore it and go on insulting me and making things up about me.

Should people be starting threads specifically aimed at some one and naming them.

Seems like its looking for confrontation or inviting others to comment about said poster
Maybe so, but going back to my point. I feel he’s get away with it on the other thread. He never apologised when I called him out on it and he even did it again straight after. I’m fed up of it. It’s really terrible behaviour and I’m going to start calling it. Rob has stated he wants people to speak with more respect on here. To me that includes making things up about people so when he does it I’m going to call him out on it. It’s up to us as a board to improve our standards and don’t employ nasty tactics like that in order to argue

I apologise. Maybe defender of Brexit is more accurate? Given you tried to deflect from my point?
I wasn't defending Brexit. You've done it again. I was criticising you for bringing Brexit into a thread and making it about your issues. And making the general point that Brexit rides roughshod over almost every issue in the country. And that huge issues which dramatically affect people's lives are frequently ignored because Brexit Uber alles.

Pretty sure something very similar happened in Randy's tell us something you love about this country thread

OP turned up and started to post about Brexit and was asked to stop with negative comments on a positive thread

I was making a straight comparison. And I stand by it

Only I made a valid point on that thread. Theee of my usual bullies jumped on it. Without in anyway way disproving my point. And one, lied about me. Twice. Hence why I called it out. I’m sick of this bullying nasty behaviour

We need to be more grown up, more decent. Rob is trying to promote this so I’m going to call out when people aren’t acting like decent human beings
To be perfectly honest SmallTown, you are coming across as a bit of a troublemaker here. I'm sure that isn't your intention.
Maybe anonymous football forums aren't the ideal platform for you to get your point across.
You might get a better response if you start your debates with people at the Riverside before a match. Or at half time.
Then those that maybe voted brexit will know that you only mean well by labelling them stupid and gullible.

I don’t mean to be a trouble causer I’m just genuinely sick of the constant bullying on here. I’m going to call it out now. We need to improve standards
