Put off by away days

Of course. All good points. Thanks for the feedback. It almost feels 'safer' to go to a home Boro game when we can sit in a family area. We were thinking about going to the Swansea away game, but the boy isn't so keen now. We'll see.
I'd love to take my son to an away game but i'm not going to bother for a good while. Maybe one where there's more of a diverse following (a big cup game or end of season game where there might be more season ticket holder families etc getting tickets might be the way forward)

I don't buy into Indeedio's idea of them seeing the "real world". There's plenty of time for that, he really doesn't need to be seeing lads off their face on coke at 6 year old

Also, if you are uncomfortable at an away game, speak to a steward. You can see from the pic below that the Bristol stewards let 10-20 Boro fans into the unsold lower section (presumably people who wanted to stay seated):

Our away following on the whole is fantastic, but there are some massive c....ts that also attend who need slapping. Thankfully they seem to be in the minority. Nothing wrong with having a good drink up before the match as long as people know how to behave, which some don't.

Atmosphere at Bristol was worst of the season for away games including Cardiff.
Reading was quite bad actually.
There was a lot and I mean a large percentage of faces I didn’t recognise and a lot of southern accents at the game.
Unfortunately it’s society's problem and includes people from all areas.
Sniffer dogs. Instant ban.

What is wrong with us southerners going to Bristol. As someone who is based around the South West it is just about the only ground that I can get to easily. Although I admit that I wasnt at the match. Most of my friends are Bristol City fans and they have no problems with Boro.

It seems to be happening more and more - there has certainly been a noticeable increase in disobedience this season and it was probably on the rise before the pandemic. Even things like coins being thrown at players seems to happen much more frequently.

The amount of coke being used seems to be a big factor. When did this start? Alcohol has always been a factor but the use of recreational drugs at the football is a recent thing I think. Maybe I was just naive towards it in the past.

Just for balance, I've taken my six year old lad to 4/5 away games including, Luton, Reading and Man U. Saw the occasional doyle but nothing at all that made me worried about him in any way or anything that would be intimidating. Just fans enjoying the match.

Don't get me wrong, they absolutely exist at games (I've complained about the negative impact on here previously) but I don't think it's in anywhere near being a place not to take kids.

Totally your choice of course. Just thought I'd give you the reassurance of somebody who's been recently with the younger ones 👍🏻

No problem here. Just pointing out that it’s not all Doyle’s from teesside spoiling it. They are all over society.
Agree with Emerson. Been taking my lad for 6 or 17 years and wouldn’t be put off by one incident. I’d go to swansea if I was you.

With the younger generation these days there’s a lot more of a culture around going to the gym / being in good shape / “eating clean” etc…

So I think a lot of young lads would prefer to do a few lines of coke rather than consume 3000 calories of ale
sniffing clean?

They wear hoods with glasses built in them, and stone island jumpers. They aren’t hard to spot. We know exactly who these ‘fans’ are. Each to their own but it’s illegal half of it and quite unsavoury for people wanting to just watch a game of football. Let alone take their children. Sort it out Boro.

That's how it is now. You have to go somewhere trendy to have your picture taken for instagram, you obviously have to have a cocktail for that picture which might be a tenner. Have 5 or 6 of them and some other drinks and then it's £20 on taxis. Most places seem to be nearing £5 a pint so even just on pints you can spend £40. When I was at uni in the 00s it was an expensive pint if it was £2.50 and I wouldn't have bought cocktails unless you count Vodka Redbull as a cocktail but even then that was a quad for £4. Prices now are crazy. I have no idea how anyone that is trying to save for a house etc affords a social life.

Not sure what you are doing to only spend a tenner but even if I walk to my closest pub, get no food etc then I won't even get 3 pints for a tenner.

Sorry, Why have a snap taken, why drink cocktails, why have eight pints, is it not possible to enjoy a night out without so much alcohol for some people????? as I said a tenner does it for me, and that includes a bag of Scratchings.

I remember going into the bogs in Netherlands & thinking the ultra-violet lighting was a bit OTT for a train station..... mate later told me it was to help deter / detect drug use.... maybe they get funky with the lighting....

You can't find a vein to inject into under UV light. The first place I experienced this was the bogs at Sainsbury's, Camden. Grim

no, I don't think we do have a bigger problem than others. we might have a larger away following that most. I honestly think we have one of the best, if not THE best away following. you just have to see the UEFA cup matches to see how well our fans behaved in difficult situations.

as ever 'football violence' is blown out of proportion and then social media stirs it all up.
Basel away wasn’t our finest hour for fan behaviour, was it?
