Prices in the club shop - Seem a bit steep?

Stock issues again. Its a farce, same as last year I've ended up with half a kit for one child and a full kit for the other and no mini kit.
Is it really that hard to have a quantity of EVERY size available before launch?? 🤦‍♂️ Great explaining to the kids after school again why only one has the full kit....

Clever marketing - they'll hardly sell any at that price, but when they advertise at 20% off in six months, people will be prepared to pay that price who previously would never have dreamt of paying £50+ for a Boro hoodie and claim to have a bargain :)

Who knows, but I assume they've done a bit more price optimization analysis than consulting this messageboard.
I think the thing that people forget because we always talk about money in the millions is that a football club like Middlesbrough is actually only a small business. We spend almost all of our money on players wages. The non-football side of things always seems to be very small and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that our finance and business analyst teams are under-funded. Knowing the way we recruit for the positions we hear about I'd guess we are paying below market rate and hoping someone will like doing the jobs because they are Boro fans. We are really small-time. We sell all of our merchandise out of 1 tiny shop. We can't even offer low cost delivery online and I'd wager that is due to low economies of scale because we don't sell much online. We might have some models knocked up on a spreadsheet but with such little data to work with they aren't useful. Other teams like Utd will have a huge commercial division. It looks like we're just copying our prices off them without realising we don't have the fanbase to support it. We know they constantly get it wrong with something as basic as stock levels because every year we either run out before Xmas or have to flog a load for massive discount at the end of the season. I have very little faith in whoever runs any of their financial models whether that is merchandise or tickets. If we were experts then other teams would all be doing similar to us but us always being more expensive than everyone else just doesn't stack up.

Middlesbrough is notorious for being a place where people lap up designer clothing. Put a Paul Smith label on a £10 t-shirt and people will buy it for £150. The whole point is it's expensive.
It works in 2 ways. first it's a flex. I have lots of money. I am a successful human being.
Second there's a presumption of quality.
If I'm buying a kettle at Argos there may be a £10 kettle. a £20 kettle and a £30 kettle. I'm not going to look at which mag to see which one to buy. I'll just get the one that corresponds most to my values. I don't need a fancy kettle so £30 one is out. The tenner one will probably be cheap and rubbish. So I'll get the one in the middle.
In reality it's just a jug that boils water so it probably doesn't make a blind bit of difference which one I buy. They may well be the same kettle in different packaging.

On that note by the way Sainsbury's own brand cherry bakewells 89p no worse than Mr Kipling's at £1:50.

Only 85p for 6 in Aldi.
Bit more-ish mind (y)

I don't know what surprises me more...
Boro's disgraceful pricing in the club shop or the fact that some on here still defend it!

Tickets/merchandise/whatever, the club just rip the fans off at every opportunity.

I'm probably in a minority of one here but not having the 32Red logo on the training wear makes it totally unauthentic. (n)

As for the prices!!! o_O

You can get a hoodie for a tenner down doggy market. This is crazy pricing!

I think a few heads might explode if you see the wholesale costs or product costs.

Unfortunately you pay for brands, and most companies know this. If you want the brand, and the most up to date clobber it comes at a cost.

I wouldn't pay it, but i'm not the target audience. I suspect this is similar to a lot on here. If it was 40 I still wouldn't buy it.
I get that if you're talking about the likes of Adidas, Puma or Nike. But errea?!?!

its not errea, its Boro as the brand.

Its a very niche market.

As mentioned above, simple strategy. Price high, rip off the ones keen for the new stuff, reduce gradually until you clear your stock.
