First and foremost, I've no axe to grind with the bloke at all. I've noted the spiteful nature of the local Labour Party over the years and often given him the benefit of the doubt in regards to this.

However, I really can't get past how poorly opportunistic this looks. Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive given the awful scenes that are developing at the minute, but is there really any need for the tone of this tweet?

If ever there was a moment for a Gazette face then surely this was it?

The man would get where a draft wouldnt get. I also feel this is pure opportunism. Apologies if it is well intended but it does not feel sincere at all.
 
The one thing I'd say on Prestons behalf is that he's always been excellent at reading the room.

Last night on news at ten they showed number 10 lit with the colours of the Ukrainian flag. I thought Putin must be s***ing himself now 🙄

or maybe it was just the theme to last nights party.
