Press Conference?

Has anyone asked him why he doesn't start with Forss up front with Muniz?
Or why he doesn't even include Hoppe in the matchday squad?
My next question was going to be about those players, how one hasn't started and scored v QPR, the other was sub v Reading - but he gave such a lengthy explanation to me about tactics etc that I thought I had better leave that until next time.

It worries me that it sounds like he's going to carry on with mcgree, I really don't think he's good enough. It's so frustrating to watch. If Bola played in that position for as long as mcgree has with the chances he's had then he'd have scored the same goals if not more!!

I thought it was an excellent interview.
I really hope he can turn it around and if he does I really hope the club provide backing in January, back ing they did not provide this summer.
But it is all about results as he himself said, and ours - collectively - have been very poor since January ended.

Good press conference IMO. To those saying he didn’t take responsibility, he clearly did and does. It’s nonsense to suggest he doesn’t. Unless you want him to sit there for 30 minutes saying “it’s my fault, it’s my fault, it’s my fault,” while not talking about players, systems, form, circumstance, injuries and opposition.

I thought his comments on recruitment and how he’s going to try and make changes to it very interesting.

Maybe someone should ask him why the club spent £5m on 2 strikers who don’t get a game or spend most of the time on the bench. Maybe ask him did he want these players and who agreed to sign them. He gets paid a lot of money and should be able to answer awkward questions. Absolute bull that the reporters dare not ask the awkward questions, in the press conferences it always seems like it’s a mates conference just men having a bit of banter. He is the manager he should be held accountable for the position we are in.

I’m at work. Glad it sounds like a good interview. What was said out of interest? Will listen later

Off the top of my head and my take only:
Results are what matter. Playing well in patches is no good without results.
Some good players not playing to their ability let alone potential.
Most goals individual errors, some of the multiple on the same goal.
A small number down to shape/system.
All aspects under the microscope; system, set up, preparation, his communication, team selection.
He will change anything if after analysis and consideration, there is logic to do so.
Results must improve NOW.
Massive resources for analysis, nobody will assess more closely in the division.
Fans every right to be upset on tuesday, but got behind them second half when players gave them some incentive.
Squad too light, recruitment needs to improve, admitted his disappointment, but pragmatically.
He has given input as to how recruitment needs to be more successful.
It's a long time since the League Cup win and Eindhoven, we are where we are, but its not where we want to be, or should be.

It was really long. And Wilder came out with plenty of plain speaking. Talking in depth of how they had all been soul searching really. Looking closely at what has been going wrong. Questioning everything but basing it all on close analysis of matches and stats from matches and being extremely professional and thorough about it all. Really worth a listen I would say. And the radio interview was almost as long. We cannot hear the radio interview as it is in a different room but judging on how long it was there should be some really interesting stuff broadcast on BBC Radio Tees I should have thought.
I can't usually be arsed but that does sound worth a listen.

It is kind of what I want to hear. Doesn't guarantee anything of course, but he's no idiot.

But surely you need to ask questions that get you answers, not just questions that make the reporter sound good.
In other words you have to read the situation and listen to how the press conference is developing and maybe try and get the manager to expand on a point or throw a little more light on something he has hinted at.

That sounded smart **** - sorry. But someone shouted at me at the end of the Reading game - "Tell Wilder." Tell him what? He absolutely knows what we are thinking and how we are feeling. I just want him and the players to get some results and turn it around.
Fair comment that Rob. It’s true, being confrontational and a smart **** in a press conference is going to get you nowhere and probably banned. Most people who say “you need to ask him the hard questions” wouldn’t do it if they were actually there. In my experience of press conferences as well, most print media have already written the article and just want a soundbite to fit it.

What gets me is the bland local media “Poor result on Tuesday Chris, you and the players must be looking forward to putting that right?” stuff. Pointless.

I’d be genuinely curious to know the answer to something like: “You lost a Premier League quality midfielder in Tav over the summer and the only reinforcement brought in for midfield was a free agent from League One. From your perspective should we have done more to replace that quality, and is the midfield an area you’re worried about given results so far?”

Or just, “What’s top of your list for January?”

Interesting comments when asked about what Steve Morrison said after the game on Tuesday.
He is quite dismissive of it but i think there is more to it than he admits. Quite a few goals so far have been the result of us losing the ball cheaply and being caught out overcommiitting men forward. We then simply don't have the pace to recover. Fans can see it so I'm damn sure opposition managers can as well.

Thanks Mate.

Encouraging at the least. I hope he turns it round for us as you know I’m a big fan of his. 3 points tomorrow please Chris and get this squad galvanised.

The most interesting point for me was he is playing the same formation tomorrow and that McGree is a number 10 'because he has scored 2 goals'. Also, only 2 goals are down to formation and 10 are down to mistakes.

So no accountability from the manager or coaching staff. So tomorrow I suspect will be Steffen in goal and the rest as you were. Rotherham will come and catch us the break and Wilder will bring Forss on for the last 2 minutes.

If I had any sense I wouldn't go but I just cannot help myself.

Sorry Rob, I don't think from what I've seen there that Wilder gets it. He just blames the players over and over again. But he trains them and sets them up and tells them what to do. If they cannot do it he needs to try something different. And he has confirmed he isn't going to try anything different. Just ask the same players to stop making the same mistakes. Literally madness.

Sounds like you aren't a fan?

He seemed pretty upbeat to me. Didn't have the body language or demanour of a man who feels under pressure from above or seems so unhappy that he'll jack it in like plenty of people have suggested.

Good presser. Clearly hurting and looking at everything he can in order to get us going in the right direction again. Also clearly accepting responsibility, but rightly saying they all have to, as they all aren’t doing enough clearly -players, coaches, staff. I find it odd that others have watched that and said he‘s not taking responsibility. I feel quite positive after that. He clearly lives his job 24-7 and I believe he’ll get it right and we’ll still have a decent season.
And yeah, he clearly thinks Morrison is a knob 😂

The thing that came out the most for me is that there is a willingness to look at everything on order to improve results and the fact that having done that he, and the coaching staff, have what the believe is a good understanding regarding what needs to be improved upon.

I suppose what you want to hear as a fan is that the manager has the potential answers and he gave me confidence that he has.

I, broadly, like how his teams play, though we are massively predictable ATM, & I don't think we have enough pace, creativity or goals in the team...

McGree, is not a #10 imho & benefits the opposition more than us in that role - we have players better suited to attacking play.. not that he's a poor player just out of position..

Will be able to make the game this Sat.. awesome.. let's hope for a win.. (a Boro win)

He basically said... cut out the mistakes, make the defensive side of the game a priority, keep clean sheets and we will move up the table as we can score against anybody.
