Poppies

I bought a nice enamel one a couple of years ago and still manage to donate a tenner online. Had to buy a new one this year as the bit that holds the pin has been mislaid. You can add a donation to your basket at checkout as well

I've been selling them for the last few weeks in Middlesbrough and Stockton. The Middlesbrough RBL are short of members and gave up the Hill St table but kept the Clevo Centre one. Stockton have been in Castlegate and the last few days near the cenotaph.

The metal ones also imply that you've bought it so you don't have to in future years!
They have the year on these days, so you look proper tight if you wear last years. I like to buy the pin badge every year as it lasts a bit longer than a couple of days like the paper one, and is a bit of a keep sake.

I didn't realise they had the year on them
Just noticed on the RBL website

A member of the audience at my local theatre had a lilic poppy as well as a red poppy. I asked her what was special about lilac and she said it was for a memorial for the killed horses in WW1 - she said there were 3 million killed - 3 times as many as humans in the British forces.
Very sad

I think the purple poppies are for all animals, but the amount of horses killed in WW1 is incredibly sad.

I thought he point was you just wore them for a few days on and around rememberence Sunday?

I buy a metal one every year with the year on it, I like to collect them. I wear my boro one mostly. It's a great tradition and hopefully one that never goes away.

They certainly seem thin on the ground in London. I don't do supermarkets but so far the only place I've seen them is a stall on Waterloo station. The usual pubs and shops don't have them. And I'm certainly seeing fewer people wearing them.

how do you eat??
