They have the year on these days, so you look proper tight if you wear last years. I like to buy the pin badge every year as it lasts a bit longer than a couple of days like the paper one, and is a bit of a keep sake. The metal ones also imply that you've bought it so you don't have to in future years!

Very sadA member of the audience at my local theatre had a lilic poppy as well as a red poppy. I asked her what was special about lilac and she said it was for a memorial for the killed horses in WW1 - she said there were 3 million killed - 3 times as many as humans in the British forces.
I think the purple poppies are for all animals, but the amount of horses killed in WW1 is incredibly sad.A member of the audience at my local theatre had a lilic poppy as well as a red poppy. Yes, I was fortunate enough to see Warhorse towards the end of its London run and it really brought it home.I think the purple poppies are for all animals, but the amount of horses killed in WW1 is incredibly sad.
Yes - you are right Uncle - she did mention pigeons as well, but the horses number stuck in my head.I think the purple poppies are for all animals, but the amount of horses killed in WW1 is incredibly sad.

They certainly seem thin on the ground in London. I don't do supermarkets but so far the only place I've seen them is a stall on Waterloo station. The usual pubs and shops don't have them. And I'm certainly seeing fewer people wearing them.
It is very sad but I think it was more like 8 million horses and mules died in WW1. The figures are mind boggling.I think the purple poppies are for all animals, but the amount of horses killed in WW1 is incredibly sad.
