The problem was that the Poles weren't going to give the MiG's to Ukraine directly - they wanted (without any prior notification or consultation) to give them to the US who would then transfer them to Ukraine.Americans have vetoed this suggestion.
Thay middle paragraph is curious? If Poland gave the planes directly to Ukraine, that would also mean NATO being directly involved in the warThe problem was that the Poles weren't going to give the MiG's to Ukraine directly - they wanted (without any prior notification or consultation) to give them to the US who would then transfer them to Ukraine.
That would have meant the US - and by extension NATO, being more or less directly involved in the war with Russia.
I don't think that particular proposal ever had a chance of going through.
U.S. rejects Poland's offer to give it Russian-made fighter jets for Ukraine
They are 30 odd year old planes from the old Soviet era and just what Poland have left overI think the most pressing question is why is Poland a NATO country is buying Migs off the Russians in the first place !
Do Ukraine usually have Migs? I mean I'm guessing not all planes are equal and just because you can fly one doesn't mean you can fly any. Its not a car.
Also all the support infrastructure an aircrew needs like maintenance teams and knowing weapon systems etc.
I'm building an Anderson shelter in the back garden and stockpiling silver foil and food
No really. I'm retired and need a hobby
Seriously though, this sht could get out of hand very quickly, with the muppets in charge of the big states, so I am getting a little worried now. Not for World War, but the decades this will take us back, financially and humanitarianly .
Poland only joined NATO in 1999. The Migs are a baby of the 1980s.I think the most pressing question is why is Poland a NATO country is buying Migs off the Russians in the first place !
