Player Power

If the dressing room / training ground mood is as bad as performances would suggest, are they players deliberately forcing Gibbo's hand re CW? Another one at the weekend like Cardiff and there would seem to be a strong argument that that's the case. I really hope I'm wrong but this seems to be more than just a blip. There's some real decent talent in the squad, especially the first 11, but they don't seem to be fancying it right now for some reason. Once again its the fans that suffer most. Especially the paying ones.

It was a very odd performance on Tuesday, akin to going through the motions, I said at the time that they weren’t playing for the manager, I think they have had enough of him, apparently can be a nasty piece of work behind closed doors too.

Doesn’t feel like their is any love lost between Wilder and the players. Don’t hear the players backing Wilder publicly and taking the blame for losses. Certainly don’t see Wilder owning any responsibility for getting selection / tactics wrong. It feels that a very uneasy relationship at the moment and normally in these situations the players win and it’s the manager who pays for bad results.

I don’t get it though, because half of them have just been signed.

If the players have gone off the manager and stop giving that extra 10% it happens, but six of the team who started against Cardiff have been here 5 minutes. You don’t sign for a new manager and down tools straightaway, have some professional pride. If anything that’s when you should be working your hardest.

I did say earlier on in the season that I had my suspicions that the players weren't playing for Wilder.

For me our performances have generally been poor ever since he came out and publically criticised individual players following the home defeat to Hull - I said at the time that he was playing a dangerous game.

I think the only genuine good performance we've put in so far this season has been the performance at Stoke, and we still couldn't manage to win the game.

I hope I'm wrong but the way player's heads dropped after Cardiff scored their 2nd goal the other night was alarming.

Exclude the keeper in those five. Mowatt in on loan therefore isn’t a boro player so is his allegiance with wilder fully
Muniz certainly seems to be giving it everything.
Clarke looks like the confidence is quickly drained from him so that appears to be the issue with him.
Giles is doing well agreed however 3 out of 11 ain’t going to get you results. 7 performing well out of 11 ain’t going to get you results if the other four are giving you a 5/10 then it starts to break the unity/spirit.
Wilder will be gone soon enough.
Burnley debacle finished him.
Look at the results since that episode.
Tells you everything you want to know.

Look at McNair, he's a shadow of his former self, he's a many capped international player but he's playing like a Sunday League amateur.
Sadly something is very amiss

System is rubbish, too many players drifting aimlessly out of position. Lack of positive attacking play causes lapses in concentration and costly mistakes. Ffs, we actually encouraged Cardiff into attacking us.

Some busted flushes in our side like McNair, Howson and Crooks. Jones is looking completely lightweight, like a 3rd rate version of Watmore.
Mowatt and Clarke should be dropped for displaying loanee levels of comittment. No wonder their clubs wanted rid.

Then there is Wilder, blaming everything and everyone in sight including the crowd. He performance is as bad as any manager that I can recall - Strachanesque i would say for talking utter bllks. I'd give him 3 games to sort this mess out. Not acceptable. The table does not lie.

I doubt it. A lot of them are new - surely they haven't had time to form such a hatred of their new boss.

Thing is you look at the squad and you think there is no way that squad should be performing at the level it currently is. Yes admittedly we are light in midfield, but there is still potential there for match winning contributions from Howson, Mowatt and Crooks. So the problem is definitely not down to the ability of who is available on a matchday, you have to look elsewhere!

My take is that we have a manager trying to force a system on a group of players who don't have the ability to play it. We do have defenders who can defend well, midfielders who can contribute to a successful engine room when on their game, wingbacks who definitely have the ability to provide and in Muniz and Watmore we have two reliable forwards who hustle and can get goals.

I think Wilder needs to have a serious rethink about where this is going because it really doesn't have to be like this. He has decent options to try new things, the squad isn't perfect but there's enough there to pull us out of this mess because we've seen great performances from most of these players before! He might be closer to a knife edge position than he thinks, if he doesn't have the ability to change it then Gibson might lose faith in someone who is a one trick pony and he could be out of here before Christmas!
