People blaming 5G for this virus.

You might laugh, but I recommend people go on Youtube around this time of night and watch one of Trumps updates. Don't watch it on one of the news networks though, find a non-news feed for it. Also don't watch for the cr@p he comes out with, instead, read the comments and look at the live chat. Batshit crazy doesn't even touch it.

Regarding the actual briefing, tonights briefing started with a rather long update on the illegal drug trades and the administrations enhanced efforts to protect Americans from the scourge of the foreign drug lords. They kept repeating that 70,000 deaths a year are a result of these drugs almost as if they were trying to take the focus off other figures.

Oh and there's a virus pandemic thing going on too.

Fortunately, at least NBC, which we tend to watch, cuts away from him to something more important like the weather forecast after about 30 seconds of his rambling. In fact, the time they give him seems to get less every day.

No, no it can't

The theory at the start of this was that 5g caused ‘a virus’ in Wuhan (Wuhan, apparently, was a test region for 5g). Not wanting to associate 5g with any virus ‘they’ thought the best thing to do was release a separate virus that could not be tracked back to 5g.

Not agreeing, btw,

There's a bloke from Tyneside who got on Radio 2 last year talking about this. Nuts. He claimed that there were no birds or bees around here and that kids were having nosebleeds because of transmitters which councils have put on lampposts.

I looked out of my window and saw bees in my flowerbed, birds of prey wheeling overhead and all with my house being within 10 metres of a streetlight with a transmitter. And as for nosebleeds, they of course had never happened until 2017, in human history.

There are always some people so desperate to blame a higher power or mysterious force to explain things which they cook up in their head. Explains the hold which major religions had for centuries.

Another theory is that it’s not 5g causing them virus, but weakening your immune system allowing it to jump species. Like flat earthers, any form of evidence causes them to change approach

Seeing connections that don’t exist is called apophenia, it’s something that those in power have used for years to exert control of the masses, as a species we like order and patterns our brains seek to establish a logical linear narrative, a causes b which causes c, it’s the baseline of conspiracy theory, if you can make any connection, however spurious, then people will accept the possibility of it being true, we then gravitate towards those we trust and like and away from those we don’t and it becomes a ‘fact’

The internet is a fantastic invention and tool but the drawback is idiots can spread rubbish like this. May of those that are concerned after being told such tosh are not stupid or gullible, it’s simply that they are scared and are looking for answers particularly given the current events which the idiots are happy to provide, despite those answers being unscientific or in anyway based on reality.

Thanks for that AM, it absolutely explains how these rumours/lies become entrenched in some.

Last night was Trump's longest address during the pandemic and after his 45/50 minute update on the war on drugs he then said that the good news was that he was number 1 on Facebook (a patent lie as he has less followers than his nemesis, Obama). What that had to do with anything is beyond me.

In addition, the governor of Florida has now put a stay in place order out after speaking to Trump and this is unbelievable, but the governor of Georgia has followed suit after he only found out in the past 24 hours that you can be asymptomatic and pass on the virus. Absolute bullchit, but it shows the power of Trump's base that a governor wouldn't protect his people if it meant going against Trump and his army of followers.

Trump has the power to positively influence a huge number of Americans if he would only stop with the crap. He even called the Congressional call for proper oversight of the way the government is handling the crisis as a witch-hunt and it hasn't even started. This follows on the back of him saying there may well be no oversight as to how the recent $2.5 trillion stimulus package gets spent.

No wonder conspiracy theories take hold.
