Penny Morduant - the art of light-touch loyalty

Yep, I agree to an extent, which is why I can’t put too much stock in an individual MPs voting record as a stick to beat them with, when clearly it’s not as black and white as just defying the whip every time.

I agree with voting records, they are almost, but not wholly worthless. Given cabinet collective responsibility, whipping etc. I am very much against whipping, in my opinion it should be a free vote each time.

On the hear say bit, I am little closer than someone said to someone etc, I work with people who worked for her and now work for another minister, and various others in the years. She is by far the most well liked minister I know of by people who work in that private office.

Anyways I need to get a train to London so off for my tea first... UTB

Here it starts. She's kind to animals, blah, blah. People are always looking for an excuse to vote Tory. It's a national sickness. They've ruined this country - not only once - and a fragrant bit of bit skirt comes along and all's forgiven. Makes you pig sick.

Knows her way round a big sword….

Thats political ideology, it what he believes in as a Tory.

Their are posts describing Mourdaunt as all sorts, deviant, desperate for attention, status, power with no insight whatsoever.

Nothing wrong with given some insight into somebody, as opposed to just making stuff about their personality
I didn't make stuff up about her personality.

I said that's how she comes across. It is how she comes across.

And to echo Fabio porkpie it at this point it doesn't matter how nice she is to people she works with or how good her sense of humour is.

It doesn't make her a nice person. Unless she's so thick to be ignorant of the misery the government she has enthusiastically worked for (and continues to work for) has caused.

Another comment was she just says whatever she feels like, which I think that had her advisors rather worried what she might say.
Surely this just makes it worse. She isn't saying anything that makes me think she's in any way fit for government never mind the top job.

I wasn’t quoting yourself.. it was another poster who had said that.

I was giving insight into her from people who I work with, who hold her in high regard as the best minister they worked for. And there has been a few.

I wasn’t the only the poster to do so but seems jsut mine are being picked up.

I didn’t say anything about her politics, I actually said to Fabio that’s political ideology. It’s what some believe in, whatever your political persuasion. I think you can separate the two.

It’s no different to tories believing all labour are scum (that’s a harsh word) etc because of their political beliefs.

It’s two teams and their supporters each side…the people batting for each side are still a person and believe or not might actually be a nice person.

That goes for all MPs, they might genuinely be a nice person but you don’t agree with their political beliefs

Anyway on that note as I said to Fabio I was catching a train to London.. jsut arrived on the grand central and have to drag me **** to Blackfriars now so UTB

Is it a worldwide lurch though? Or jsut Europe and north America? Could be a reaction to the balance of economic power swinging back East?
Definitely happening here after Jacinda and labour.

We have a very right wing government who think nothing of flashing welfare benefits and free school lunches for all to subsidise tax cuts and landlords allowances.

That largely depends on what you consider to be scum - and I can't really speak for Labour right now, but...

If you bat for the wrong side you are, by definition, not a nice person. How you decide what the wrong side is, is a personal choice, but I tend to think that the people who want to make sure that the less fortunate are looked after are probably right.

I think you need to wake up smell the coffee fella.

Some of what you've said might have been true 10 years ago. No doubt some people genuinely believed austerity, trickle down economics etc were good for the country and would benefit everyone.

It's not the same now. It's not just about political ideology anyway. It's about the behaviour of those running the country. The lies, the dog whistle racism, the corruption and the criminal behaviour. All of it unacceptable whatever your politics.

Plenty of tories have called it out so it's not just opposition parties appalled at the behaviour.

You'd have to have been living in a cave not to notice it. Mordaunt hasn't been living in a cave, she's been front row and centre for the whole **** show.

Happy to repeat the lies. Happy to (at best) ignore the corruption. Happy to go along with the culture wars and ignore the stoking of racial hatred.

Saying good morning to her secretary and laughing at jokes doesn't let her off the hook for that. By all accounts Boris Johnson was nice to his staff too. Didn't make him a nice person either.

Since Cameron was re-elected we have had the following Leaders of the House of Commons

Chris Grayling
David Lidington
Andrea Leadsom
Mel Stride
Jacob Rees-Mogg
Mark Spencer

She is a light years better than all of those, except maybe Mel Stride.
Why then, if she’s such a decent human being does she stand by and watch the nhs get drained of funds and the madness of Rwanda and its policy alongside spending 600million on a scheme when people are desperately struggling.
Any association with this extreme right wing party is proof she will continue to present policies that turn our country into a basket case that it is

Royal Navy background.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've had more sea time than she's had tea time.
She was RNR at King Alfred (Portsmouth RNR) and went to sea for about a week. Never a commissioned officer and now she's an Honorary Captain.
(I know it means fcuk all but i dont agree with making celebrities honorary officers.)

Has other tory MPs saying utter shıt like "she fought in the navy" but she never corrects the inaccuracies.

She can fcuk right off as far as I'm concerned.
