So you think Middlesbrough football club established in 1876 and have only ever spent 2 short spells outside this countries top 2 divisions in our entire history that has won major cup and been in a major European final.

Are a “very small club”
Compared to the Liverpool, arsenal Chelsea, etc outside of them yes.in terms of size we come about 24th biggest.

What is a BIG club?

Sunderland would claim to be - based on their support base but have no recent success.
Leeds too - one team in a big city - massive support base.

So, is a big club based on potential support?

We aren't a big club but I wouldn't think of us as being small either. One thing is for sure - we've punched above our weight in many departments for quite a few years.

The term he used was “
Very small club”

To be fair when you spout utter rubbish you are gonna get people pick up on your comments. We are not a very small club.
Agreed. Doesn’t matter what metrics you use we are a bottom end of the prem side, size-wise.

- Historical attendances we are 16th highest in the country
- Stadium size we have the 14th biggest
- seasons in the top flight we are 20th
- all time premier league points we are 16th (if you want to look at recent history)

What are the stats/facts that prove we are a ‘small club’?

Stats like that prove it.

Only saying how I see it Boro are not a big club interms of all the clubs in the UK.But one of the biggest in the championship.
If that were true then there are approximately 75 very very small clubs beneath us, about 10 average size clubs above us and 6 big clubs

We come about 16th-18th ‘biggest. I’ve just given you some stats. What stats have you got to drop us another 6-8 spots?

Massive difference between the top six and the rest .Alot of average size clubs (small clubs) compared to the top clubs it's worlds away .Yes you could say lots of smaller clubs or average.

This is one of those things that people spout without any real thought. But it’s a balance of history and potential. Potential is pretty subjective, history can be measured.

so yes there are a handful of clubs in their own bracket. There are about 15-20 clubs that we are in with who are capable of 30k fans, have a decent stadium, a history of international players, have played in Europe, etc. the. There are about another .

Then there are another 50 who get crowds either side of 10K.
