Patrick Bamford on Tony Pulis

The Gazette have written a couple of articles about his recent Q&A on twitter. One about his desperation to be our #9 and how Britt nicked it contractually. But the other is about how and why he left, and his comments on Tony Pulis. I hate to have to dig up old ground, but doesn't this put to bed all the well-trodden rumours about Pulis forcing him out?

"He was really good about it, to be fair. A lot of people have bad stories about Tony Pulis but I cannot speak highly enough about him, as he was honest, told me they had accepted a bid and thanked me for my time and everything. That was pretty much it. Once he had said it was the club's decision, that was it. After that, my head was only focused on Leeds. Obviously there was final details and stuff that needed to be sorted, but that was pretty much the whole story."

I still can’t understand why we’d sell our main striker to them, it was basically a white flag to the rest of the league.

Desperate for money to stay within FFP, probably, nobody would offer what they wanted for Assombalonga, and nobody offered for Gestede

We had 5 strikers for 1 position, so one of them had to go and he was the most sellable.
I just wish they'd shifted Braithwaite instead.

Over the times I met him at press conferences Pulis was thoroughly decent. He took an awful lot on the chin to keep the club afloat in tricky financial times.
I went to that open evening he did at the Riverside and thought he spoke thoroughly well, good to speak to Jonno and Fleming afterwards aswell

The Q&A also said that Boro deliberately priced Karanka/Forest out of signing him, then accepted a much lower bid from Leeds.

I thought that Leeds wanted gestede first but we wouldn't sell?

That was the season before.
Seems insane with hindsight, but I suppose Gestede had only been with us for 6 months and everyone was awful in that second half of the PL season, including Bamford, so the club may have thought he'd come good.

They weren't to know that it wouldn't get much better with him.

I actually think Monk failed Bamford more than Pulis. It was a ridiculous decision to go out and spend £31m on Britt, Braithwaite and Fletcher, when we already had Bamford at the club.

Bamford should have been our no 9 the first season following relegation, and then we could still have had Gestede, and one of either Stuani or Rhodes, to add competition.
