Palestine v Australia

You don't have to be a sovereign independent state to be a member of FIFA.

Australia doesn't recognise the State of Palestine either.

As it stands, Palestine isn't independent and isn't sovereign, though it should be and hopefully one day will be.

It's not stopped the majority of the world from recognising the State of Palestine, but most of Europe and North America don't.

I can't believe we need to go over this again. Israel play in Europe for the simple fact a lot of Asian countries wouldn't play them. It would be a farce it it continued how it used to be with teams withdrawing when drawn against Israel. Palestine you don't have that problem.

For example:

A number of Muslim states refused to play against the new national side, which culminated in the bizarre spectacle of the 1958 World Cup qualifying stage for Asia and Africa - won by Israel without playing a single game.

FIFA, determined to avoid the embarrassment of a country qualifying for the fledgling international tournament without kicking a ball, arranged a play-off with Wales.

And this:

Six years later, Israel hosted and won the 1964 AFC Asian Cup, which remains the country's sole international football trophy.

However, the achievement was arguably undermined by the pre-tournament withdrawal of 11 of the 16 intended participating countries.

That maybe the case (I suspect it won't when they've just played so many games back to back to catch up without any refusals) but it's been happening for that long now - I can't believe anyone truly doesn't know why Israel play in Europe.

It's like your opening bit. Why do England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland play in FIFA when they aren't recognised as sovereign states?

I think alot of countries will refuse to play them now.

I find this one a bit of a tricky.

Punishing the footy team for terrorist acts of the state is (IMO) going to make no difference whatsoever.
Same as banning Russian athletes because of mad Putin.

Why are Israel allowed to enter the Eurovision Song Contest?
Sat next to Egypt and Jordan.
Why not Lebanon - its closer to Europe - so is Syria.

Have Lebanon ever asked to take part? Again - Israel are allowed to compete as they are members of the European Broadcasting Union. Australia compete too.

Maybe reading this might help before you jump to some conclusion.

Eligibility to participate in the contest is therefore not limited to countries in Europe, as several states geographically outside the boundaries of the continent or which span more than one continent are included in the Broadcasting Area.[51] Countries from these groups have taken part in past editions, including countries in Western Asia such as Israel and Cyprus, countries which span Europe and Asia like Russia and Turkey, and North African countries such as Morocco.[19] Australia became the first country to participate from outside the European Broadcasting Area in 2015, following an invitation by the contest's Reference Group

The UK unequivocally supports the state of Israel, Israel can literally do anything and we support it, the UK government can say whatever they like, our actions are louder to me.

I really dislike how Israel have conducted themselves but people against them don't really help themselves when they present things as some kind of Israeli conspiracy. All people need to do is take a few minutes to actually look into things.

Sources have confirmed to Football Palestine this morning that Palestine will not field a team this week at the Merdeka Cup. The outbreak of violence over the weekend that has left over one thousand people dead threw the fixtures scheduled for this week in Kuala Lumpur into doubt.
Over the weekend there had been a concerted effort to try and get the players out of the country and the plan was to leave on Monday.

The coaching staff were the first to try and make their way to the land crossing but were unable to navigate a route. Much like the events of May 2021, settlers intent on implementing their brand of vigilante violence have descended onto to main roads in the West Bank stopping and searching vehicles with the backing of the Israeli Defense Force.

One player told Football Palestine that he could not find a taxi willing to take him to Jericho in order to cross the border due to the nature of the situation. Another player, from Jerusalem’s Old City, has been unable to leave his house due to the groups of settlers that roam the streets looking for Arabs to beat up.

Palestine was due to play Tajikistan on Friday and then play again next Tuesday against India or hosts Malaysia into doubt. The Merdeka Cup will still go ahead but will be played in a round-robin format.

The cancellation of the friendlies is a blow for Palestine who will miss the chance to prepare thoroughly before starting their World Cup qualification campaign next month. Palestine are due to open their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign away to Lebanon (hosted on neutral territory in the UAE) before traveling back to Palestine to play hosts to Australia.
