Pakistan v England 1st test

Well, that was pretty incredible. On a pitch like that, I recon 95% of games would be a draw.

A lot of people thought that the declaration was too early, but they got it just right, as bad light might have saved Pakistan just about 15 minutes later.

Agnew was bleating on again about Stokes shot selection being reckless.
They just can't seem to want to embrace this new approach.
I get that it's fully at odds with traditional Test Cricket but it's been so successful so far that the fuddy duddys need to move on.

I think the frustration comes from the fact there’s a line between being aggressive and just slogging and giving your wicket away. Stokes is so much better with the bat that it feels a bit of a waste.

If you look at Stokes’ dismissals so far as captain, there have been a number of absolute slogs where the shots just haven’t been on. If you contrast that to the way the likes of Bairstow played last summer. He played very aggressively, with good shot selection and very few high risk shots / slogs. Similar with the 4 centurions the other day. You can be extremely aggressive without being reckless.

Part of me feel it’s deliberate to prove a point to his players. In the context of the last test, it didn’t really make a difference so it shouldn’t be dwelt upon too much.

He’s always had that element to his game, even prior to captaincy. I doubt he’s going to change now, so probably something we live with. If he keeps these results up, I won’t be complaining.

Really excited for the ashes now. But Starc Cummins and Hazelwood are a different class to the Pakistan bowlers.
Be interesting to see if the ashes will see the end of Bazball

We had priority for Ashes tickets at Headingley for next year. We were going to go for days 1 and 2 and stay over in Leeds.

Unfortunately, when I looked at the actual dates. Day one is the day of my Wedding!

The missus still not convinced by having it on a projector at the venue either!

I have exactly the same for the Oval test. Wonder if a can sneak a wireless in? We could always swap our wedding dates. I'm sure that would be simple?

Plus you'd have to get permission from Headingley to let you take a projector in.

Haha. Mine’s been delayed a year already as the other half fell pregnant last year. She didn’t want want to be 8 month gone on our wedding day.

Also, I think the thought of a whole day with the families without a drink was too much for her to take.

I’ll swap as long as you do the admin! 😆
